Barbara Morrison Obituary

Barbara I. Morrison

Our mother Barbara died on Jan 21, 2018 in Cathedral City, CA following a long goodbye due to dementia. Barbara was born September 10, 1927 in Long Beach, CA to Leone Heaton and John Henry Inman. Following the death of her father in 1941, Leone, Barbara and brother Gordon moved to Palm Springs. Barbara began at Palm Springs High School in 1941 and graduated from PSHS in 1945. She began working at the age of 16 selling movie tickets at the Plaza Theater. She also belonged to the Junior Chamber of Commerce and learned the mimeograph skills that she would later use. Barbara married Robert Carroll Morrison Jr. on July 17, 1946. After her children had all started school, Barbara began to work for the Palm Springs Unified School District, first as a bus driver, and later she became the Duplications Technician, who for 25 years printed all the various forms, workbooks and reading assignments needed by the schools. Barbara and Bob were active at the Betty Ford Center during the 1980's, took up tennis and traveled to Alaska, Canada and to other getaways from the desert heat. Barbara is survived by her three children Deborah Morrison Hand, John McCabe, and Robert Carroll Morrison III (Charlene), granddaughter Kimberly Jenkins of La Quinta, and great-grandchildren Mathew Wauge, Ally Jenkins, and Kylie Jenkins. Also suvived by sister-in-law Estella Inman of Pasadena, and nieces Karen, Janice and Dina. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, brother Gordon and mother Leone. Many thanks to Edmund and Elizabeth Razon of Aloha Home Care in Cathedral City for the years of excellent care that our mother received. Burial will be at Desert Memorial Park on Friday, January 21 at 10:30 am.

Aunt Barbara

I'm sorry to hear of the passing of my aunt Barbara. Thank you, Aunt Barbara, for all the wonderful memories of holidays spent at your house in Palm Springs. I loved to watch you and Uncle Bob play tennis and live the very cool desert life that I appreciate so much today. Thank you for taking care of my grandmother Leone as well. I always felt good knowing you were there when my dad, Gordon, had passed away way back in 1983. To my cousins, I'm sorry I didn't get to know you better. We were a bit different in our age groups, but I know that your parents, my dad/your uncle, and our mutual grandparents, Leone and John, will all be looking out for us. Goodbye Aunt Barbara. I loved you very much.

Barbara could have been a Little Rascal!

Aunt Barbara - so kind and quietly funny. Nothing seemed to faze her, and when she was in the room she could pass along that sense of calm with a sly smile and consipiratorial glance your way. Even though we weren't able to visit often, when we got together she felt like a close friend. That's a rare thing.

Bobby, Johnny and Debbie, you had a great mom, my dad had a great sister and I had a great aunt. You will be missed, Aunt Barbara.
