Charles Mace Obituary

Charles Burton Mace, III, "Chuck", a former resident of Santa Barbara, Calif. passed from this life suddenly on Sunday, June 13, 2010. He was 63 years old. Chuck was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served his country with three tours of Vietnam. He had accomplished advanced degrees in Business, Art History and Physics. Among his many accomplishments, Chuck served on the Board of the Pacific Pride foundation, the Board of the International Association of Pride Coordinators, and co-produced the Gay Pride Festival in Santa Barbara for three years. With his then partner of 10 years, Jerry White, Chuck developed the services that are provided by the Pacific Pride for person living with AIDS. Chuck served on the Board of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce and was very involved in the Gay communities of San Diego, Santa Barbara and Palm Springs. Chuck is survived by his partner, Mark Prather; four sisters and countless friends. A Celebration of Chuck's Life will be held on Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Adagio Galleries, 73-300 El Paseo Drive, Palm Desert, CA from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. The gallery is located between Sage and Lupine Lanes. All family and friends are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please make all remembrances to Guide Dogs of the Desert or the Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens in the name of Charles Burton Mace, III.

I met Chuck when I was the CEO for the Palm Springs Chamber. He was immediately involved, motivated, and helpful. He was also a very nice person. I am so sorry and offer my condolences to Mark and to his sisters.
