Donald Hickman Obituary

Oct. 21, 1924 - Sept. 20, 2010 Don is survived by his two sons, Gary, who is married to Joannie, and Bradley. He was born in Los Angeles, Calif., to Lela and Carl Hickman. He attended Fremont High School, in Los Angeles and joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country in Japan. After the war, Don attended Compton Junior College where he was a quarterback on the 1946 and 1947 national Championship teams when they called it the Junior Rose Bowl. Don married his beloved JoAn in 1947. In 1948 he became a Los Angeles City fireman and retired in 1977 as a Fire Assistant Chief Executive Assistant. Don and JoAn retired to Sunrise Country Club in 1977, then later to Palm Valley Country Club in 1986. Along the way he notched up a few club championships and accumulated ten holes in one in his playing days. The boy loved the three pars. The final bell rang for Donald on September 20, on this year of 2010. He now joins the love of his life, JoAn, who left us on January 7, 2007. Two very special people are together once again. The Hickman family asks that in lieu of gifts, donations to be made to Visiting Nurses Association of the Inland Counties Hospice. Funeral services will be held at Forest Lawn at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 2, 2001, at 69855 E. Ramon Rd., Cathedral City, California, 92234. Tell someone you love them today and everyday... Brad, just a note of condolence and support in your loss. Your dad's memorial service was quite beautiful and touching. From watching the tribute video of his life, both he and your mom seemed like wonderful people and I would have liked the opportunity to have known them. May your memories sustain you, and may God bless you, Brother.
