George Morrow Obituary

George Russell Morrow born in Halifax, Nova Scotia passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, March 19, 2011. George lived in Southern California for 41 years. After retiring from Burbank Studios he and his partner moved to Cathedral City where they lived for the past 19 years. For several years George had a lamp repair service and was affectionately known as Sir Lamps A Lot where he met and enjoyed many friends. George enjoyed camping, road trips and to shop the thrift stores were he got a great thrill from the many treasures he would find. His most enjoyment however was visiting with his family especially the small children. A multifaceted individual, George could be sensitive and compassionate in one moment and wildly unpredictable in the next, always quick with a joke. He was well loved by family and friends, his presence will be dearly missed. George was preceded in death by his daughter Anna Bernardi, his father George William Morrow, his sister Joyce Morrow, his brothers Con and Doug Richards and his sister Rose Jones. George is survived by his mother Viola Richards and sister Betty Wold both of Grass Valley, Ca., his partner of 36 years Roy Leitner of Cathedral City, his ex-wife Rita O'Brien of Halifax, Nova Scotia, His sons Anthony Morrow, Peter Morrow, Paul Morrow, David Morrow, and daughters; Zoe Charon, Zita Morrow, and Zelda Morrow all of Northern California. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Rohnert Park, Calif. Saturday, April 2, 2011. A celebration of his life will be held locally in the near future.

When I think of George, the first thing that pops in my head is him holding a dog. It was a rare occasion to see him without one of them. I also think of a man that you never knew what he was going to say next, but you could bet your last dollar that it was going to make someone smile or laugh. It was an honor to know such a happy and playful man. He will truly be missed, but never forgotten.

We have lots of good memories of George that will be with us forever. We enjoyed our visits in California where we enjoyed playing dice and drinking the cantaloupe floats that he made for us on one of our early visits. We also loved it when he was here at our house in Colorado. We will miss him and our thoughts and prayers are with all of the family.

My condolences to Roy, Vi (George's mother), and George's family. To a great person in our lifetime. George was a one of a kind person. He was always happy go lucky and all of our family truly enjoyed the years we spent together with him, from his visit to Kansas to our time spent in California. From the garage sales to the swimming pool, to the card and dice games we always enjoyed his company. All of our children and us really enjoyed his presence. These memories will have to be retained by all of us as a tribute to him. His chair at our dining table will be vacant but not forgotten. May he rest in peace

Do you see the laughter in those eyes?
Have you noticed the almost impish look on Dad's face,as if at any moment something comical is about to happen? Do you recognize the strength that most assuredly was felt when he held you,or helped you, or your babies? Do you see the intensity on that face, when he set about a task, common to craftsman of trades he never studied, yet mastered at his will? Do you see the love of animals that even they could sense was so much a part of his being? Can you see the tear that was always there the moment he heard a sweet gospel song, and he'd say turn it up , turn it up..... If you see,......
That's our Dad!

I will always remember George's stories and his joyful sense of humor. He always loved being surrounded by children; in fact, he reminded me of the Pied Piper when it came to kids... they just seemed to flock to him. Plenty of us will miss you George. Rest in Peace, Mr. Morrow.

For all who visit here with words of love and support for Roy, our family of which Roy is an integral part and our father George, I want to personally thank you. Dad's life was very full and he was so blessed to have so many good friends as well as a very large family. Though he had struggles in his life he always had the support of a loving wife in his early years, and later a loyal partner to see him through. Dad recognized good people and drew them close and so it was that we came to have one of the largest blended families I have ever personally seen. Between Roy's large and supportive family and Dad's sizable family there was never any shortage of love, and so it is with humble thanks that I offer to all who visit here the invitation to be gentle with one another, embrace the beauty of our diversity thereby enriching all of life. Much Metta, Zita Morrow

I worked at Warner Bros./The Burbank Studios/Warner Bros. Studio Facilities from 1966 through 2001. I don't remember George by name, although I might have know him. He sounded like a wnderful guy, and I would have liked to have known him. I'm retired now in Palm Springs, and wish George god speed to a happy hereafter.

Dear Roy,
I just saw George's obituary in today's paper. I am so sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and his family. I wanted to send a card but the phone book said you still lived on Ottawa St. and I don't think that is true!
I will always remember when I met you both at Choices years ago.
If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know! I am in the phone book.
Sincerely,
Randy Winbigler
