Gerald Kortmeyer Obituary

August 10, 1940 - August 17, 2010 Funeral services for Dr. Gerald Kortmeyer were held Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. John's, Lutheran church in Gregory, S.D. with Pastor Albert Althoff officiating. Interment was at Graceland Cemetery in Burke, S.D. Urn bearer was Dennis Kortmeyer. Music was provided by Melanie Hannahs, organist. Clausen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Gerald Dean Kortmeyer was born to Erwin and Alice Kortmeyer and was raised in Burke, S.D. He was the third of six siblings. Jerry married Janet Clausen and had four children, Dennis, David, Diane and Debbie. The family moved to California in 1962 where Jerry owned a gas station, a lamp factory and was a welder until he graduated from Logan College (Missouri) with a degree in Chiropractic. He maintained a successful practice in Cathedral City, CA for 27 years. Jerry passed while he and girlfriend, Rhonda were on their annual vacation to visit his mother and older brother, Eugene in Dallas, S.D. Jerry enjoyed being the captain of his boat and fishing with friends and family on weekends. He golfed, like table games and greatly enjoyed returning to South Dakota to harvest the produce his mom and brother Gene planted. Love of service was paramount in Jerry's life. Helping people live healthier happier lives gave him great joy. Those fortunate enough to have met him were immediately drawn to his special qualities. His generosity and love of life were an inspiration. He was an advocate for living life with a positive attitude and believed in starting his work day with laughter and camaraderie with friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his father; daughter-in-law, Netter; brother, Erwin; and grandson, Josh. Jerry is survived by his mother, Alice; brothers, Gene and Craig (Janelle); sisters, Jolene (Don) Fleming, and Marion Kelly; sons, Dennis (Jennifer) and Dr. David (Edith); daughters, Debbie and Diane (Doug) Brawley; grandchildren, Adam Dean, Lynn, Jena, Adam Christopher, Jesse, Jeremy, Vincent, Kristin, Kelly, Douglas, James and Jessica; and great-grandchildren, Ava, Atticus, Hanna, Megan, Cayden and Addison; and his long time girlfriend, Rhonda Efroymson. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 5:00 PM at Valley Assembly of God, 32-500 Cathedral Canyon Drive, Cathedral City.

Hello Kortmeyer Family. Myself and my family will miss knowing by the passing of my good friend Dr. Kortmeyer. My famly and I lived across the Street in Chesterfield while he was going to Logan College there. He truly earned that title of Dr. Magic fingers as we affectionately called him, his massages were so therapeutic. When he moved back to Cathedral City, Ca., I would stop by with my horse Transport rig and visit and he would give me his celebrity treatment and truly helped revive me for the rest of my trip.

Dear Kortmeyer Family, I am saddened to learn of Dr. Kortmeyer's passing. He was a wonderfully gifted Doctor and he helped me when no one else could. He practiced his profession with such innovative talent that he stands without equal in my mind. Dr. Kortmeyer was gifted with grace, with dignity and with integrity. I shall remember him always for his commitment to health and wellness and for the new lease on life he gave me. His humour and goodwill resonate still. My heartfelt condolensces to the family.

Rhonda and Family, I was deeply saddened and felt a great emptiness when I learnd Dr. Kortmeyer had passed away. He brought a special kind of health to so many people through his skills, humor and genuine care. I was so afriad of getting adjusted when I started treatments but he quickly made me feel safe and Rhonda always made me feel warmly welcomed. There won't be another like him. I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn that Dr. Kortmeyer was no longer with us. I have been treated by many chiropractors and he was definitely at the top of the "best" list, in addition to being a very special wonderful man. He will be extremely missed.
