Guy Connelly Obituary

Guy T. Connelly, a long-time resident of Palm Springs, California, died peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2014, after an extended illness. Guy was born on March 14, 1937, and grew up in Manhattan, New York, the middle child of John Edward Connelly and Margaret Scholl Connelly. His brother, John E. (Judy) Connelly III, Palm Beach, Florida, and sister, Susan (Mrs. Doug) Painter, Rowayton, Connecticut, survive. He attended The Lawrenceville School (Lawrenceville, New Jersey) and University of Virginia, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Marriage, family and his work in the banking industry brought relocation to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he spent his middle years. He was actively engaged in the community until his retirement as Senior Vice President of Trust from Indiana National Bank in 1990. His son, Kevin (Amy) Connelly, daughter, Kitty (Mrs. Rick) Radcliff, and granddaughters, Kristine and Kara Connelly, reside in the Indianapolis area. Upon retirement, Guy moved to Palm Springs, where he was an active volunteer with a variety of organizations, including, most recently, the Mizell Senior Center. He enjoyed keeping in touch with many friends and family members across the country, and his rich voice resonated on telephone visits. His partner, John Blohm, preceded him in death. Guy will be remembered by his family for his generous spirit, his ability to tell a story, and his sense of humor. He instilled in his family the importance of volunteerism and "giving back" to the community. A memorial to be held at a later date is being planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mizell Senior Center, the Desert AIDS Project, or the American Cancer Society.
