James Perez Obituary

We were blessed with James Gregory Perez on November 19, 1988 in Indio, CA. He took our our hearts with him when he departed on August 5, 2017. James was one of the few people in life, that when you crossed his path, your life would always be better. James loved life, he loved his life, and he lived it to the fullest. He never wasted a second, always on to the next adventure. James graduated from La Quinta High School with his same treasured friends since kindergarten. James left his imprint playing rugby, wrestling and football.
James went on to join the United States Army and became an Airborne Ranger. In a short time he established lasting friendships. In spite of being wounded in Afghanistan he continued to serve his country.
James was loved by those lucky enough to be his family and friends. He was the cherished son of Debbie Schnell Alvarez Garcia and Luis (Vivian) Perez; the love of Breanna Darin's life; grandson to Leovi Lopez. He was also the youngest and much beloved brother to Joe (Denise) Alvarez, Jasmine Hernandez; Luis (Kim) Perez Jr.; Ricky Perez; Michelle (C.R.) Wolfe and Desiree Perez. He was a precious and caring uncle to all his 9 nieces and nephews, and deeply loved by his extended, blended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents James and Jacquelyn Schnell, and step grandparents Manuel and Felisa Alvarez.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017, 5:00-8:00 PM, at
Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in La Quinta, CA.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 18, 2017, 10:00 AM, also at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Interment at Coachella Valley Cemetery will follow.

I learned of Jamie's death two nights ago, at the Coachella Valley Airborne Association Meeting. As an old Airborne Ranger (Vietnam - 1968) I also feel his loss. I was at the rosary service at At. Francis of Assisi Church in LaQuinta last evening with his family and friends. He was a true warrior, and he will be missed. Be thou at peace, Sergeant Perez. Dave Stepek
