Janet Fraser Obituary

Janet Grace (Michiels Englebretson) Fraser née Dawson died on July 2, 2010 from natural causes at the age of 73 in Charleston, S.C. Jan was a native of Harlan, Iowa. Journalism was one of her greatest passions. One of her favorite quotes sums it up: "EXCELLENCE can be obtained if you...CARE more than others think is wise...RISK more than others think is safe...DREAM more than others think is practical...EXPECT more than others think is possible." She always lived this as can be seen by her work in the communities in which she resided and in the many lives that she touched. She was a newspaper reporter and editor in California and Mississippi for 24 years including nine years at The Desert Sun. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Marianne Rhoads (Ronald), John Michiels (Lisa), Karen Mason (Randall); her three grandchildren, and her half-brother. As she wished, there will be no formal memorial service. Condolences may be sent to 30 Corte Sereno, Greenbrae, CA 94904. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

I worked for her Jan in Redlands. Seemed to have a love for the profession. Made solid friends. Had good children. Was a proud mother. There was a nice ambiance about Jan. I've thought about her quite a few times throughout the years. I lost track of her, but always wished her well. Condolences to her family.
