John Asher Obituary

John G. Asher

Palm Springs - John G. Asher, fondly known as "Greg" to family and friends, passed away in his home in Palm Springs, California, on November 29th, 2018, at the age of 64, following a brief illness.

Greg began his life journey in Monroe, Michigan, on September 9, 1954, to Cecil and Catherine "Puzzy" (Hoffer) Asher. He attended Monroe High School, competed on the tennis team and graduated in 1972.

Greg moved to Colorado and later settled in Palm Springs where he worked as a travel agent and attended the College of the Desert. He later began a successful 35-year career in real estate where he received numerous recognitions for accomplishments during his career. Greg was recounted by co-workers as intensely dedicated and the "go-to-guy" in the valley for his depth of knowledge and experience

Greg enjoyed composing music, playing guitar, solving crossword puzzles and sharing his culinary endeavors. He was a fervent supporter of his beloved California sports teams; however, his passion remained on the tennis court. Until prevented by his illness, Greg had continued to compete, with his best friend and brother, Jim, locally and internationally in doubles tournaments.

Greg's enthusiasm for life and contagious smile were an encouragement to those who knew and loved him, and he will be sadly missed.

Greg will be lovingly remembered by sisters Jenny (Paul) Merline, Sherry (Tom) Hochradel, nieces Ashley, Jennifer, Jessica and Stephanie, nephews William and Andrew and great nephews, a great niece and dear friends who supported him through his struggles with diabetes.

He was preceded in death by brothers Bill Asher and Jim Asher, sister Eve Asher- Schuster and his parents.

A private celebration of life is planned for the summer in Greg's home town. Those who desire to make memorial donations may do so in memoriam of John "Greg" Asher, Palm Springs, CA to The American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA, 22215.

R.I.P. my friend. Found photos circa 1976 my mom took of 2 very tanned, long-haired new California boys headed back to Monroe for a few days in your little Datsun pick-up. The best road trip. Thank you for The Asher-White Group. We had a good run! Say Hi to my mom, and yours. You are alone no more. Bronson

We knew and very much liked Greg for so many years. I believe we met him for the first time at an open house in Deepwell in the old William Holden house. He was such a likable character. Through the years we met his mother and one brother--such a great family. We knew of his great love of tennis and Coca Cola.

He listed our Deepwell Ranch home in 2008 and did a wonderful job of selling it. I was so surprised to read of his death. A kind light is gone, but certainly not forgotten.
