John Yoxsimer Obituary

John Keith Yoxsimer

Jan. 28, 1936 - Nov. 27, 2012

John Yoxsimer was a passionate runner, sailor, golfer, pilot, husband, father and friend. He was an adventurer who never passed on an opportunity to experience or explore, whether on land, in the air or on the open seas. John was born in Findlay, Ohio and moved to Rancho Mirage where he graduated from Coachella Valley High School in 1954. He received a football scholarship to Pepperdine University, graduated in 1959 and went on to get his masters at CSU Dominguez Hills. While working at Kaiser Hospital, he met Karen who has been his loving wife and best friend for 39 years. They lived in Redondo Beach until they retired to Palm Desert in 2000. John and Karen have enjoyed 12 wonderful years in the desert golfing and spending time with family and friends. He was tough, like his inner football spirit, fighting cancer to the end. John is loved by all who have known him. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that a contribution be made to your favorite charity in John's memory.

My sympathy to John's family. He was known a "Butch" who grew up two blocks from us in Findlay. He was best buddy of my brother, Keith (d 1986) and I was best buddy to his brother Ron.

It has been our good fortune and pleasure to share a friendship with John and Karen these past several years. John was a real man, a true friend, and an American patriot. Though tough, and firm in his beliefs, he maintained a genuine concern for the feelings and welfare of others. John is, and will be, missed and respected.

John, you will be missed by all the employees at Kaiser who's life was enhanced by your wit and stories, even if it was mostly by phone. You were a joy to talk to and enriched my day when we could talk for a few minutes. Karen, I send you my wishes that all your memories of John will be wonderful.

How many happy memories flow along with the tears! Happy days with you & John at 1010 Esplanade in Redondo, your house on Pearl St., and our house at Tahoe. Skiing at Heavenly and John's "Bucking Bronco" ride in the meadow! Karen, we're so glad you & John stopped by to visit us last August. The pain of his loss would be deeper if we hadn't been able to visit then. Your friendship has meant so much to us through the many years. We pray God will ease the pain of your loss with all the love and prayers of your friends. We will miss John so much.
With much love, John & Mary

We will always remember Johnny as a kind and caring friend. He had a fine sense of humor and we enjoyed our times together very much. John and Karen's friendship was a cornerstone to beginning our lives in the desert. The 'Mega Yoxie' is written into Mountain Vista golf lore. Remembered forever.
With love, Morrie and Baboo xx

John was the best friend anyone could ever hope for. He was bright, loyal, honest, informed, caring, inquisitive and beyond all was a true gentleman. I will miss him beyond words and my thoughts and love go out to Karen. She was the ideal husband and companion for John.
John loved life and all its vicissitudes, suffered fools gentlemanly, including me at times and was modest almost to a fault. The world will be a diminished place without him. His one weakness was being almost as bad a golfer as me, but we never the less had great times trying to beat each other! John, rest in peace and I'm very glad you're not suffering anymore.

John, I can't believe you are gone now too. I have known you all my life because of my brother, Don Roberts Jr. We all grew up together, played football in the streets of Indio and then to Pepperdine. So glad you came back to the desert. But now you are gone. You gave a great battle, just like the football field. I will miss you Yox but you are up there with DJ watching the Rams.
