Kim Robbins Obituary

Kim Robbins died peacefully at home in Palm Desert, CA on February 16, 2016 after a courageous and uncomplaining 14 month struggle due to a series of strokes. Kim was a former executive with Carter-Hawley-Hale, owners and operators of hundreds of department stores nationwide, including Neiman-Marcus, John Wanamakers, the Broadway and others. After college graduation Kim started as an assistant buyer, working her way up to the position of General Merchandize Manager. Kim was also on the board of directors of Cost Plus- World Markets for 12 years until Bed Bath and Beyond purchased the company. Kim was a widow when she met her husband Ted through J-Date, an online dating service. Kim was briefly on the board of directors of the National Council of Jewish Women in Los Angeles and a lifetime member of Hadassah. Kim survived Hodgins Lymphoma after an immensely difficult 4 year chemo-radiation bone marrow struggle in the late 80's. Kim enjoyed collecting art, gorgeous clothes, and beautiful jewelry, hiking, downhill and cross-country skiing and going to the gym, reading, book clubs, her many friends, fine dining, scrabble and playing duplicate bridge. Kim magnanimously played bridge with her husband, more out of love than pleasure. She frequently commented that "If Ted and I didn't play bridge we wouldn't have anything to fight about". Kim was loved and appreciated by her family, friends and business associates for her kindness, acumen, honesty, empathy, reliability, perspicuity, organizational efficiency, generosity of spirit and unfailing loyalty. Kim will be buried next to her deceased husband Alex Lawlor at Hillside Cemetery in Los Angeles. Her grave marker will say: "Beloved widow of Alex Lawlor, Beloved wife of Ted Goldman, The Best". She was only 70 years old. Contributions may be made in her honor to the City of Hope, Duarte, CA. A celebration of Kim's life has not been finalized.

Dear Ted, Kim was such a special lady, & we felt so privileged to know her. We will miss her lovely smile, her clever comments: political & otherwise, her wonderful travel suggestions, her love of special dinners & anything chocolate; and all of the special times we spent with both of you, over the years. Because she loved you, & knew that you did the very best you could for her always; she would want you to try to move forward with your life when you are ready; while holding tight to all of the special memories you shared together.

Our love and deepest condolences,
Melinda and Jim

Dearest Ted, we met you both in Sun Valley when you were beginning your life together. Our whole family has very fond memories of all the fun things we did - of course, always followed by a scrumptious dinner and and a wonderful bottle of wine. You were such a wonderful husband and caregiver to the very end. I know Kim is no longer suffering and probably trying to round up a bridge game. With much love, Debby and Mark
