Loraine Meyer Obituary

Loraine Vallat Meyer

Rancho Mirage - Born February 11, 1917, Gallup New Mexico and went to Jesus, October 8, 2019, Rancho Mirage, CA.

She is survived by her son, John Vallat and two grandchildren, Lya Vallat and Andrew Vallat Loraine was raised in Torrance, California by her parents Arthur and Elsa Meinzer who owned a bakery there for 35 years. The Meinzer bakery was mentioned by Louis Zamperini in the book about his life, "Unbroken". He loved their donuts and would steal them whenever he could.

Loraine met Ben Vallat in Santa Monica, CA and were married in 1940 in Ventura, CA In 1942 the Vallat's welcomed a daughter Jane and in 1944 a son John was born.

1946 found the Vallat's moving to Rancho Mirage, CA to farm the family's Date orchards, Citrus groves and Table Grapes.

Loraine loved fashion and liked to be dressed fashionably. She worked in most of the earlier upscale stores here in the Coachella Valley including Bullocks, Edith Morley and Beau James.

Loraine was a women of great Faith and was a member of the Episcopal church for over 70 years. She volunteered at the Eisenhower Collectors corner, The YMCA and the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens.

Loraine remained physically active her entire life and loved to garden, take long walks at their beach cottage and around her hometown Rancho Mirage.

Known for her feisty personality, Loraine kept everyone on their toes and on their best behavior. She had a sharp, clever mind, even until the end of her long 102 year life.

"Hurricane Loraine" as she was best known, lived a long blessed life and will be missed by her family.
