Margaret Speck Obituary

Margaret Speck

Margaret Speck (Margie) After a long illness with Parkinson's; Margie Speck passed away at age 88 in Rancho Mirage, CA on April 9, 2011. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Dale Speck, and many nephews and nieces. She was born February 13, 1923 in Omaha, Nebraska, where she attended high school and business school. She excelled in softball and basketball, competing in the multi-state region. Later in life she enjoyed golf and tried not to tease Dale about his awkward left-handed cross-handed golf swing. Margie married Waldron Calamia in Omaha. They built several businesses before relocating to the Los Angeles area (where Waldon died in 1987). Margie served for 20 years as an unpaid Director of the Temple City Chamber of Commerce, organized annual Camellia Festival parades and was a leader in the Temple City Woman's Club. She gave generously to charities, including Sacred Heart School, where the school building bears her name. Viewing will be at Forest Lawn Mortuary, 69855 E. Ramon Road, Cathedral City on April 14, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., including a Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at Sacred Heart Church, 43775 Deep Canyon, Palm Desert, on April 15, at 10 a.m. Interment will be private at Resurrection Cemetery in Montebello. Margie was a very generous friend and always gave 100% of herself to any project she undertook. I feel fortunate to have known her for over 50 years.
