Melvin Frank Obituary

Melvin Frank

Palm Springs - March 07, 1924 - January 29, 2021

Melvin Frank "Crazy Mel", a well-known local businessman in Palm Springs for many years, passed away on Jan 29, 2021 at his home in Palm Springs, California. He was 96 years old. He was a proud man that lead the charge on Arenas for all lifestyles with no judgement, only acceptance.

Mel was born in Chicago, Illinois on March, 07 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry Frank and Lillian Frieriech. He was also preceded in death by his two sons. Mel is survived by his grandson David Frank of Oklahoma and his nephew Jerry Frank who lives in Vietnam. Mel had many close friends in Palm Springs who he considered to be a part of his family, and he was certainly family to them.

Mel was a WWII Veteran. He served in 3 branches of the Military: Merchant Marines, Marines and Navy. He was so proud to wear his WWII cap. Serving his country was important to him.

Mel attended Mexico City College where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree.

Mel was an entrepreneur for most of his life, owning more than 20 different types of businesses, mostly in the Northern California area and Palm Springs. At the time of his death, he still owned Tryst Bar, Palm Springs. He attempted to retire earlier in life, but the thrill of buying and running new businesses always pulled him back into the entrepreneur world.

Mel was always kind to everyone. He was there to lend a hand to every friend. He was generous and always giving thoughtful gifts. He was the purest definition of a friend. We will miss the lively discussions about business and his many adventures. We will definitely miss having him in our lives. I think his flair and love of life was his secret to a long life.

He will rest at the VA Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California.

Due to Covid19 related issues a celebration of life will be held at a future date.

I miss him every day. I always enjoyed his business conversations and life stories. We had a lot of fun together, he never let his age be an excuse.
