Ramon Alvarez Obituary
Ramon Alvarez, 54, of Indio, CA was called to our Lord on August 1, 2017. Born to Maria Cruz Sanchez of Coachella, Ramon graduated from Coachella Valley High School Class of 1981. He attended University California of Riverside and upon his return to the Coachella Valley, Ramon married his high school sweetheart, Mercy, in 1982.
Ramon was part of the Desert Sands Unified School District family as a warehouse assistant. Serving his faith to the Lord, Ramon was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Indio Council of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Serving the community, he was a member of the Eagles Lodge and coached multiple youth sports from little league to high school football. Besides being a coach and mentor Ramon was an avid sports fan.
He leaves his beloved wife of 34 years Mercy Alvarez, his daughter Erica Alvarez and his two son's Ramon and Samuel Alvarez. He is also survived by his Mother, Maria Cruz Sanchez and his sister Yolanda Garza. He leaves behind large extended family. He was preceded in death by his aunt Berta Coronado and mother-in-law Alice Arias Torres.
Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Thursday August 10, 2017. Viewing at 10 a.m., with Rosary at 11 a.m. and mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow immediately at Coachella Valley cemetery. Arrangement are being held by the Fitzhenry-Wiefels. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in care of to CVHS Alumni Assoc. P.O Box 3021, Indio, CA 92202. Please note to CV-Indio Football Reunion Scholarship Fund in memory of Ramon Alvarez.

Mercy, we attended the funeral services for Ramon. The OLPH Church was packed with family and friends. Standing room only. Even the Eagles Lodge, food reception, standing room only. That tells you how much we all love Ramon. He will be missed, but we treasure all the memories we have of Ramon with you Mercy and Ramon Jr, Samuel and Erika. The loss of Mr. Alvarez really hurt me. Coach Alvarez influenced so many and really treated us all like family. Not only the football players but every student he ever interacted with.
