Riley Sherman Obituary

Riley Rose Sherman

La Quinta - Riley Rose Sherman, of La Quinta CA, forever six years old, went home to be with our Lord on April 13th, 2018.

In August of 2016, just weeks after her 5th birthday, Riley Rose was diagnosed with stage 4, metastatic neuroblastoma. A disease which she would eventually die from.

She fought, and fought and fought. Through two relapses, four hospitals, and a multitude of clinical trials, her family fought alongside her. She spent over 350 days in the hospital over the past 20 months.

Riley Rose was the most amazing little girl that ever lived. She had a personality that exceeded the boundaries of everything. She loved to sing and dance and play. Her life was one endless musical. Every day that she lived was packed full of smiles, love and laughter.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sherman of La Quinta and her brother Matthew Steven and her "sister" Hayley Sweet. She is also survived by an extended family that reached from CA to Texas and beyond. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Richard Little of Palm Desert and her paternal grandmother, Karen Sherman Lood of La Quinta.

Childhood cancer has defined our lives, and we need the world to know that our kids deserve more. Our kids deserve a cure. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to www.beatnb.org so that Riley Rose and the 700 other kids diagnosed with neuroblastoma every year can find a cure. Dr. Giselle Scholler of Grand Rapids, MI is currently working to solve pediatric cancer through the use of genomics and molecular guided therapy. Any donations to www.beatnb.org go to support her clinical trials and her passion to solve kids cancer. Along with Dr. Sholler we were grateful to be treated by Dr. Tanya Watt of Dallas TX, and Dr. Elyssa Rubin of Orange County, and Dr. Shakeel Modak of New York City.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 1st at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palm Desert, CA with a burial at Coachella Valley Cemetery to follow. There will be a reception and celebration of life from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Southwest Church in Indian Wells, CA. The mass, burial, and reception are all open to the public. Services have been entrusted to FitzHenry-Wiefels Funeral Home in Palm Desert, contact Maggie McMillan with any questions.

Please take a moment tonight to hug your babies a little more, and to cherish the moments that matter. Although the past 20 months have been hard, we are grateful for each hardship. We are better people because of this journey. As always, to God be the glory. We can do hard things. We can always do hard things.

Hi Riley! Tony, Sharon, Matthew and now 19 month-old Daniel Maciel here. My son, Matthew and you were classmates in Ms. Stevens class in 2015-16.

Oh, Riley Rose you are such sweet child inside and out! Always smiling...always showing love...always giving affection to anyone and everyone. So innocent and pure of heart. I got the biggest smile when you would hug Matthew during morning prayer. You would touch his head and lean on him. Matthew would just freeze in place, while looking at me with uncertainty.

Always full of life and joy. I also remember during morning prayer, when i was pregnant with Daniel, you out-of-the-clear-blue kissed my belly and asked me if i was having a girl. You had said, "I want a baby sister." Your mom had to tell you not to be kissing peoples bellies. i was shocked with wonder, who is this little one kissing my tummy? But that was your nature to be free spirited!

We would periodically check the internet to see how you were doing. i remember seeing a picture of you smiling in bed and your ocean bright blue eyes didn't show the high and low waves of pain your were experiencing, yet your eyes continued to shine even brighter.

Your parents are proud of you! We are all proud of you! You have the power of 100 superheros. No superhero compares to you! I promise you this, as long as we are alive... we will continue to pray for you and your family. In addition, to praying for the little ones who were in the hospital next to you sharing your same journey.

With as much love as our hearts can pour out, we give it to you Ms. Riley Rose Sherman. We will see you soon.
