Robert "Bobby" Re

Robert "Bobby" Re, 73, a native of White Plains, New York but a longtime resident of Southern California, passed away on September 11 at his home in Palm Springs following a lengthy battle with cancer. Bobby had been active in various retail businesses. After graduating high school in White Plains, he moved to New York City and worked several jobs until he landed the position of Manager of the Museum Shop at the Museum of Natural History. His work at the museum helped him gain an immense knowledge of Native American art and artifacts, leading eventually to his departure from the museum to open a shop of his own in San Francisco in 1972. Five years later, Robert moved to Los Angeles for personal reasons, and became active in the business of stationery and greeting cards. For several years, he was the manager of Alexander's Stationery Store, one of the most highly regarded and popular stores of its kind in Los Angeles. Following the sale of Alexander's and its subsequent closure, he became a sales rep for several different greeting card companies and then retired in Palm Springs in 2001. A man of refined taste in art and music, Robert also had an avid interest in classic cars, and nurtured a secret "guilty pleasure"- collecting videos and posters for trashy movies of the 40s, 50s, and 60s. A good-natured, even-tempered man, Robert was fun to be around; he had amassed and kept a large circle of friends from all phases of his life. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by brother George and his wife Michelle, his nephew George and niece Maia. Funeral services were held in private. Memorial services are being planned in Palm Springs and New York City.
