Stuart T. May, 63, of Indian Wells, CA passed away suddenly on January 22, 2017. Stuart was born in Franklin, LA to Julia and Thayer May. Stuart graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor's degree in Science in 1979. He went on to receive his Medical Degree, Internship and Residency from LSU completing them in 1984. Stuart then completed his fellowship training in Interventional Radiology at UC-San Diego in 1990. After his fellowship, Stuart moved to Rancho Mirage and began his career at Eisenhower Medical Center. Stuart was the Director of the Vascular and Interventional Radiology Department at Eisenhower where he helped develop one of the first aortic stent graft programs in Southern California. In 2001 Stuart established one of the first virtual colonoscopy programs in the nation and helped in the development of the first FDA approved 3-D virtual colonoscopy system with the Viatronix Corporation. In 2003, Stuart started the first MRI Breast Cancer Detection program in the Coachella Valley, one of only several in the country at that time. Stuart began working at Desert Medical Imaging in 2008 where he helped establish one of the first outpatient MRI-guided prostate biopsy and laser centers in the world. Stuart was an incredible physician who served his community with both passion and compassion. As an interventional radiologist, he literally touched thousands of lives over his years of dedicated service. Stuart's involvement in the medical community was far-reaching and he was always available to assist with patient care.

Stuart's life was complete with his 5 beautiful children, Sadie (20), Tad (19), Mason (17), Molly (13) and Savana (13). His children gave him purpose, laughter and unrelenting joy. They will miss his unconditional love and support but carry with them precious memories of family time spent together and private moments of guidance and encouragement. Stuart was an amazing father and a great patriot who loved being outdoors. His desire for his children was that they would experience all the great things in life that God provides and that one day they would find their own passions; he believed that would bring them true happiness. Stuart was also an avid runner completing numerous ultra-marathons and Ironman events. Stuart, his wife Cheryl, and his children were regulars on the Bump and Grind trail and consistently showed their support of the community by participating in various charity walks and runs. Stuart felt truly blessed to be surrounded by the beautiful mountains and clear blue sky of the Coachella valley, which he never took for granted.

Stuart is predeceased by his parents, Julia and Thayer May and his sister, Patricia May O'Niell. Stuart is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Cheryl May, his brother Tad May (Beth), nephews, Clark O'Niell, Collin May (Emily), Lexington May (Paige). He is also survived by his uncle Dr. F.R. May and aunt, Marilyn Duke.

There will be a public viewing for friends and family at Wiefels and Sons Mortuary, 690 South Vella Rd, Palm Springs on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. On Monday, January 30, 2017 a mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 43775 Deep Canyon Dr, Palm Desert at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Stuart may be made to Xavier College Prep at 34200 Cook Street, Palm Desert, CA 92211 in the name of "May Family Tuition Assistance Fund".
