Thomas Hunt Obituary

Thomas B. Hunt

Thomas Hunt, "Papa," was born on Aug. 11, 1928, to Blaine and Stella Hunt in Omaha, Nebraska. He spent his early years in the eastern part of Nebraska, living in the cities of Lincoln, Fremont, and Hastings. In 1944 he attended Kemper Military Academy in Boonville, Missouri, and in 1945 his family moved to Riverside, California, where he graduated from Riverside Poly High School in 1946. In 1948 he graduated from Riverside College with an Associate of Arts degree. While attending Riverside College he met and fell in love with Doris Armstrong and they married on Feb. 19, 1950. He went on to work for Sears, Seaboard Finance Co. and joined Citizens National Bank (later to become Security Pacific National Bank) in 1955. While employed by the bank he held assignments in Riverside, Banning, Idyllwild and Barstow. In 1974 he was transferred to Indio, California, as vice president and manager of the Indio branch. In 1981 he was transferred to Cathedral City as vice president and manager. In 1983 he retired from Security Pacific and became vice president and manager of Eldorado Bank where he remained until 1990. During his life he gave back to community in many different ways, including president of the United Way of the Desert, Rotary Club of Indio, Indio Chamber of Commerce, governing board and chairman for JFK Hospital and vice president of the FISH Organization. In 1987 he was also elected to the Indio City Council and served two terms of four years each. He also served the city of Indio as mayor. He was heavily involved with the board of directors of the Indio Chamber of Commerce and served as chairman of the Government Affairs and Public Policy Committee. Throughout his life, Tom enjoyed golfing, traveling in his motor home all over the country, Silent Valley, boating on the Colorado River and a single-wide trailer in Leucaida, California. Approximately 10 years ago, he and Doris relocated to The Woodlands, Texas. His biggest joy about his new area was the magnificent trees and being closer to his loving family. Tom and Doris have three children, Gary, Julie, and Joyce. He has four grandchildren, Jennifer, Justin, Shawn and Mason; and he also has a great-grandchild, Brandon.

Sending you all my sympathies -- Uncle Tom was one in a million, that's for sure. He and Aunt Doris always made the holidays at their home such a fun family affair. Boggle, anyone? He is missed.

I worked for Tom at Eldorado Bank. I just loved him and Doris. Tom taught me the saying" all that glitters is not gold". I have used that and every time I have thought of Tom Hunt. What a wonderful man and for sure he got his wings. Love to the family and a big hug for Doris.

Dear Doris and family, our sincere condolences on the passing of Tom. Both my wife and I knew Tom at Security Pacific Bank. Mary worked with him in Barstow and he taught me the game of golf. Tom and I worked in the same Region for SPNB, he at Cat City and me at Hemet. I considered him a mentor. He will be missed. Thinking of you and your family, Jim and Mary Clinton, Hesperia, Ca.

Dear Doris and family,
My sincere condolences on the passing of Tom. He was a fine man and outstanding mentor to all those who worked for him. Before Mike's death, he always spoke highly of Tom and commented how much he enjoyed working for him. Praying for God's comfort and strenghth during this very difficult time.
