Thank you Walter for your friendship the past two years. Your help in our search for a home in the desert made us realize how lucky we were to have you in our lives. Our times together were always filled with humor and good laughs. We will always remember your "3 Italian Food Groups: Sausage, Wine and Bread". May God now grant you the peace and eternal happiness you richly deserve. God Bless You.

Dearest Walter
In such a brief span of time,
13 months is precise,
The time spent with you will have to suffice.
Our lives were enriched,
You became family and friend.
And as we all know,
This shall not be the end.
Cuzz it's a good life in Heaven,
Where we'll see you again.
So, shake those martinis,
Cook up a storm,
And promise us Walt,
You'll keep the food warm.
There will never be another Walter Russo.
All our love as always,
Don & Patricia Smith, La Quinta, CA

We were lucky to have Walter as a member of the family. We remember the times he came with Muriel to visit us in Belgium as it was yesterday. He was a very nice person always quick with a warm smile and happy heart. We enjoyed his presence, his humor, his love for Italian food and his way of entertaining people. That’s what made him so special.
We will miss you Walter.

To Walter's family: I didn't know Walter for very long but found him to be a most upbeat and sweet man. He helped us with the Duroville Food Program through Sacred Heart Church, and I visited him in the hospital as well as talking to him on the phone. I went to see him again, and they couldn't find him. So...I lost track of him but always remembered him giving me encouraging words - when he was the one in the hospital bed - remarkable man! God bless you, Walter, and rest in God's peace.

Our Dear Walter,
After 28 years of friendship we look back on so many wonderful memories.
The Palm Desert Community Theatre memories are some of the most treasured. Closing night cast parties were always the highlight of every theatre season and productions themselves!
Your love of theatre was a gift you gave to all of us who worked with you. Your enthusiasm knew no bounds whether you were directing, designing a set, or driving our big old truck to the next show.
We always looked forward to and enjoyed our annual birthday dinners....a nice bottle of wine, reminiscing and catching up on the latest news!
We miss you terribly dear friend.

Walter, I'll never forget our times together in the desert, especially in the 80's and 90's. I won't forget your charm, charisma, sense of humour--and the bold laughter that ensued whenever we got together. I won't forget the way that you faced the possibility of death with a smile and optimism, and an encouraging word to those around you. None of us will. Rest in peace my friend--until we meet again...

There is a lot to be said about Walter, but; two things I always think of when I think of Walter are: He always put the needs of others in front of his. His continuous faith in our Lord during our friendship before he became ill and during my visits to him at Eisenhower and at the care home, and us ending our visit by praying together and the goodbye handshake and Walter's words, "Diego, it is a good life" to me that is Walter. Although you have gone to be with our Father, you will always be with me Walter. I love ya.....

Always a man about 'presentation', whether putting on a big holiday party (we enjoyed several of those!) or an intimate dinner with friends, he made it his ART by being host...and wonderful cooking too! We'll miss you, Walter.

Walter, I miss you. When you asked me to be your Fine Master at Rancho Mirage Rotary club, I was honored. Having been in Rotary since 1987, you were one of the greatest Presidents a club could ever have. Your zest for life and just your upbeat personality was great to be around.
Then you invited me to Christians in Commerce. We both grew closer to our LORD and each grew stonger in our FAITH and the fine bunch of men who meet every Friday at Sacred Heart have touched both of our lives like you have touched each one of us.
When you said to me "Bob, we were destined to be together", I know that we will be in HEAVEN together. Thank you WALTER for being the great director in life.

Dearest Walter J. Russo,
It is with heartfelt sorrow that I learned of your passing. I greatly appreciated your friendship and will miss having you with us along with all those who had the pleasure of knowing you. It was a pleasure being part of The Rancho Mirage Rotary Club along with you and spending time with you now and then about town. Your zest for life was second to none, your determination and outlook in life inspirational. Thanks for your friendship, encouragement, words of wisdom and all the times you made me laugh. You are right Walter “It is a wonderful life” and I have no doubt that in heaven you will have a wonderful and peaceful eternal life.
Thanks for the memories.

Walter was one of my dearest friends in the desert. Even though we lost contact over the years, I thought of him often. He was kind, generous, and truly loved everyone. My prayers go out to his wife, family and friends. He will be missed.

Losing somebody close to heart is very hard. Walter was part of our family for several years. He will always be remembered as a fun an loveable son-in-law. He loved to cook and prepare special dishes and presented them in a way nobody could. To you Walter, may you rest in peace.

I will always remember Walter for the big smile he had and for his unique laugh. He was a great cook and a team player in our office - always ready and available to help his fellow realtors. A man who gave his time to help others, Walter will be missed by many. May he rest in peace.
