William W. McCune, Jr.

William W. McCune, Jr. DDS, aka Dr. Bill McCune, Uncle Mac and Pappy

He was a Father, Grandfather, Dentist, golfer, fisherman, artist and handyman

Bill is survived by his wife Mary, his four children and their mother Kay McCune. Bill & Jody McCune, their children Bailee Rasmussen (Tim), Clayton & Jacob.

Kevin & Kelli McCune, their children Hannah & Kyle. Kelly & Tom Flanagan their daughter Kaileigh. Sean & Nancy McCune and their children, Emily, Alex & Nickey.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, moved to Southern California and graduated from Venice High School, went on to his Mormon Mission in Hawaii after attending one year at University of Utah. Returning to California to complete his education and graduating from USC Dental School. In September of 1962 he opened his dental practice in Palm Desert. He was very generous with is time in helping Head Start -Coachella Valley Program with free dental checkups, he also was involved with the Palm Desert Rotary and Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed fishing trips in Hawaii & Mexico with his buddies. He was Club Champion at Shadow Mountain Club, La Quinta CC and Bermuda Dunes CC. He won the Rotary International in Sweden and Switzerland and played in many more all over the world. He met so many people through Rotary International and said, "If the people I have met were running the world there would not be any problems." He also played for many years in the Bob Hope Desert Classic.

In the mid '70's he became a gentleman farmer in Unincorporated Riverside County now known as La Quinta. The family ranch of 10 acres had 500 grapefruit trees, a Chicken named Cluck, a cow named Fred, Horses, a few sheep and motorcycles for the boys. He loved animals all kinds of animals. He had many beloved Dogs and Cats throughout his life.

Later in life after retiring from dentistry he started his own business called "Doc can do it". He could do anything from making gold jewelry out of fillings, beading, pottery, painting, plumbing, building a house, and leaded glass windows, you name it "Doc could do it".

He and his wife Mary spent many summers in Michigan at her family cottage and eventually moved to Jacksonville, Florida to care for her mother. This is where he lived his final years. Returning to the Desert twice a year to see his kids and grandkids.

Predeceased by his parents and sister Cherine Herran. He is survived by his brother Conwell McCune. Brother in Law Charles Herran and their families.

A memorial will be held at a later date.

My condolences.
I first met Dr. McCune as a teenager when he was my dentist in Palm Desert.
He was a good man and will be missed.
