May 29, 1933 - January 4, 2017
Allen Alvis Minor "Al", 83, of North Zulch, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, January 4, 2017 due to complications from those darn cigarettes!
Al was born in Farrington, Illinois on May 29, 1933 to Phillip Angus and Lillie (Tate) Minor. The bond he shared with his six siblings inspired his love for family. After graduating high school he joined the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed in Japan during the Korean War as a Staff Sargent, Radio Interceptor Operator and was a recipient of the National Defense Service, Korean Service, Good Conduct, and U.S. Service Medals.
Al was married at a young age and had three boys before the marriage ended. Later, he was introduced to his true love and companion, BJ Minor and had one more son. As a young man, Al was a successful bar owner and operator. Later he made a living by maintaining electronic office equipment for the Texas Prison system and across the Brazos Valley. As a proud Lifetime Member of the Masonic Lodge in Valparaiso, Indiana, he prided himself in devotion to every relationship and commitment.
Al enjoyed fishing, particularly white bass, dove hunting, woodworking and creating beautiful walking sticks, reading romance novels, bird watching, treasure hunting, tinkering, football especially the Aggies & the Texans, and watching his children and grandchildren in any activity.
The glue that kept the family together, Al took great pride in maintaining the home and animals and even loved doing laundry as it made him feel close to his mother who died at a young age.
Al had a "way with the ladies" he loved old country music, dancing and gave the best hugs and always got a kick out of doing and saying things that would catch people by surprise.
Neighborhood kids loved to visit Al and adopted him as their grandpa. He found joy in attending the Cowboy Fellowship of Aggieland and enjoyed singing and tapping his boots along to the music!
Al leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to family. Remembering him most at his time are his wife of 39 years, Brenda Minor "BJ", of North Zulch; son, Buck Minor and favorite daughter-in-law, Allie of College Station; grandchildren, Phillip Minor and wife, Amy of San Antonio, Adam Minor of Vista, Calif., Elizabeth Dugelby of San Antonio, Trey and Taylor Minor of College Station; siblings, Evelyn Minor, Jerry Minor and wife Judy, and Shirley Jackson; several nephews, nieces, numerous friends whom he considered family; his dogs, Reilly, Shotgun, Roxy Minor, and his beloved horses.
