Barbara was born on June 17, 1941, to Horace and Virginia Whitney in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She graduated from University of Washington in Seattle, but she grew to love Texas A&M as part of a family of Aggies.
Barbara was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, as well as spending time with her exercise group at Aerofit. She was especially fond of attending Aggie football games, and of course spending time with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Lawrence "Pete" Petersen.
Barbara leaves behind sons, William Petersen and wife Veronica of San Antonio, Michael Petersen and wife Julie of College Station, and Quintin King and wife Le of Vancouver, BC; sister, Virginia "Gina" James and husband Larry of Tulalip, Washington; and was a proud Nana to grandchildren Angelina, Carlos, and Luke Petersen, Jacob Kniffen, and Tessa and Avery King.
Barbara and her family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Juddi Yeh and Dr. Roque Villareal for their compassionate care over the years.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Beacon Baptist Church in Bryan.
