Betty Sue Smith, age 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday morning, October 23, 2025, at Crestview Senior Living & Care Community in Bryan, Texas, where she had resided since August.

Born in Baytown, Texas, Sue grew up in both Baytown and Galveston. She graduated from Ball High School in Galveston and attended Sam Houston State University before marrying her beloved husband, Donald Emmett Smith. Throughout Don's football coaching career, the family lived in Texas and Louisiana. Sue continued her education at the University of Texas at El Paso and the University of Southwestern Louisiana, ultimately earning her Bachelor Science degree in Education from Loyola University New Orleans in 1974. She was devoted to her teaching profession and the many students she inspired.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Donald Emmett Smith, who passed away in 2004.

She is survived by her three sons: Clint and Linda Smith of College Station; Steve and Barbara Smith of Houston; and Emmett Smith of College Station. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Jon and Leslee Day of Midland, Texas; Lance and Samantha Smith of Portland, Oregon; Cherie and Darrell Prochaska of Boise, Idaho; Lara and Charlie Leikam of College Station; and Melissa and Wade Kinsey of Sheridan, Wyoming; as well as ten great-grandchildren: Peyton Day, Zackery Day, Devin Prochaska, Dane Prochaska, Davis Day, Cole Leikam, Deacon Prochaska, Max Leikam, Bodhi Kinsey, and Avery Smith.
