Calvin Combs Obituary

June 11, 1948 – December 11, 2010

Calvin Lewis Combs, 62, of Bryan, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.

The family will receive friends with a visitation from 6:30 to 8:30 pm Wednesday, December 15, at Hillier Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, December 16, at Hillier Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, at Houston National Cemetery in Houston.

Calvin Lewis Combs, SFC (Ret.), U.S. Army, was born on June 11, 1948, in Burlington, North Carolina. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Nora Combs.

Mr. Combs is survived by his wife of 37 years, Beverly (Slisz) Combs; daughters, Shannon Combs-Ballard and husband, Brad, of College Station, Lisa Riggs and husband, Glenn, of Graham, N.C., Catherine Stephens of Burlington, N.C.; grandchildren, Christopher Scarmardo and wife, Katherine, of Houston, Calvin "Mitch" Scarmardo, Ethan and Elisabeth Ballard of Bryan-College Station, Jennifer Turner and husband, Chris, Linda Riggs, and Ian Stephens of Burlington, N.C., Beth and husband, Jeremy, of Staley, N.C.; great-grandchildren. Emily and Anna Turner, Trinity and Larry Poteat Jr. of Burlington, N.C.

Dear Beverly and Family,
My heart is touched by your grief. I have loved Calvin all of his life. He was a special cousin! He will always have a special place in my heart. He loved all of you very much and it has been obvious to everyone who knew him that he was loved in return. Please hold onto your good memories to sustain you in your dark times and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers!
