Catherine Strong Obituary

Catherine L. "Grammy" Strong

May 19, 1937 - May 18, 2025

A celebration of the life of Mrs. Catherine L. "Grammy" Strong, 87, of Bryan-College Station, will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at LaGrone's Chapel in Hallsville with Ryan Welch officiating. A private burial will be held under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Friday, May 23 at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. Mrs. Strong passed from this life to her home in Heaven on May 18, 2025, at BaylorScott&White in College Station, just 25 minutes short of her 88th birthday. She was born May 19, 1937, in Hallsville to the late Cecil and Mary Annette (Quillin) LaForge. Catherine spent most of her life in Hallsville, graduating from Hallsville High School in 1955. Shortly after high school graduation, she married the love of her life, Marlin E. Strong, on June 10, 1955. Mrs. Strong would go on to work for First National Bank in Longview as a loan teller for over 40 years until her retirement in 1996. Mrs. Strong was a resident of Bryan-College Station for 30 years where she was a member of First Baptist Church Bryan. She taught in the 2-year-old Sunday School Class and also volunteered a few days a week as a teacher in the Mother's Day Out program. Catherine later moved to Henderson with her family and was attending First Baptist Church of Henderson before recently returning to Bryan. She enjoyed sitting down with a good book to read and camping earlier in her life. She also loved to cook. It's no surprise that Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday. She would forever cherish the time she spent with family and doting on her 10 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It's also hard to think about Catherine and not remember her love for travelling. Branson was a highly favored vacation spot, and she planned many trips for family as well as the senior adults in her church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Marlin E. Strong, and her sister Mary Francis Rosette. Survivors include her son, Wade Strong of Dallas; daughter, Sherri Welch and husband Ben of Bryan; grandchildren, Cara Burgess and husband Mark with great-grandson Caleb, Casey Strong and wife Krysten with great-grandchildren Carson, Charlotte, and baby Strong on the way, Rachel Kruger and husband Collin with great-grandchildren Coulson and Camden, Ryan Welch and wife Emily with great-grandson Clark on the way, and Graham Welch and wife Madelyn; Cara and Casey's mother, Denise Strong; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Welch, Graham Welch, Collin Kruger, Casey Strong, Mark Burgess, Joshua Jordan, Steve Strong, Scott Strong, Wayne Rosette, and Randy Thornton.
