David Alan Erlandson

David Alan Erlandson was born January 10, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, to Gerald and Anna Erlandson. As a child, he was no stranger to Wrigley Field; his favorite Cub was Phil Cavaretta. At an early age, he came to know the Lord and throughout his life faithfully served in many churches, including eldership in three of those.

He attended Wheaton College, where he met his wife of almost 66 years, Gwyneth Jones. Shortly after graduating, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He and Gwyn were married in 1957 and together, raised four children. He was a faithful provider, protector, and spiritual leader.

Dave was a teacher and coach in the public schools of Illinois. He became passionate about education and received his M.S. in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University. He completed his doctorate in Ed. Ad. at the University of Illinois in 1969. In the 1970's, during his time as a professor at Queens College in New York, he worked in many New York City schools. At Texas A&M University in the 1980s, he was instrumental in founding The Principals' Center and trained educators all over the state.

He loved to take long walks, to read, to discuss theology and philosophy (with a special interest in Kierkegaard). He loved Shipley's donuts and coffee. He loved being a grandfather. His most passionate goal as a learner came from one of his favorite Bible verses, Philippians 3:10. "All I want is to know Christ…" This loving husband, father and grandfather will now truly know "the power of His resurrection."

He is survived by his wife, Gwyneth; his children, Paul, Linda (Bendiksen), Daniel and Charles; his 12 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren; his brother, Douglas; and many other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station on Tuesday, May 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at Zion Church of Kurten Wednesday, May 10, at 3 p.m., followed by a private graveside service.
