August 31, 1951 - January 29, 2018
On January 29, 2018 Bubba announced his arrival at the gates of heaven with a loud train whistle.
Born in Albuquerque, N.M. to William J. "Red" and Elaine (Worth) Hargett, he grew up in Temple. At the age of only 17, Bubba joined the U.S. Marine Corps. After serving a tour in Vietnam, he was awarded several medals and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant E-5 after serving his country proudly from 1969 to 1973.
Bubba owned and operated several successful night clubs in Temple before moving to Bryan in 1983. He opened Hargetts Family Smokehouse and later Hometown BBQ Restaurant. Cooking BBQ was his great passion in life and he was known far and wide for having the best in town.
It was in Bryan that he met and married the love of his life. They had five remarkable children whom he loved with all his heart. One of his greatest joys in life was making people laugh and he was often heard telling a favorite joke. His joy for life was infectious and he will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Elizabeth (Norris) Hargett of Bryan; sons, Forrest Lee Hargett and August Trey Hargett, both of Bryan; daughters, Haley Elise Hargett, Autumn Noel Hargett and Summerlyn Dae Hargett, all of Bryan; sister, Debra Taylor of Troy; a brother, Billy Hargett of Moffitt; a granddaughter, Sage Madison Eastep; several nieces and nephews.
Please join us for a Celebration of Bubba's Life from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 24, at Joe's Place, 9376 Hwy 21 in Bryan. His ashes will be interred at the Central Texas State Veteran's Cemetery in Killeen at a later date.
The family extends their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this very difficult time.
