Gerald Whitfield Obituary

Gerald Wayne Whitfield

Nov 23, 1942 - Jul 18, 2025

Gerald Wayne Whitfield, born on November 23, 1942, in Bryan, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, surrounded by those he loved.

He spent his early years in Galena Park and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army, with a station in Korea. In 1970, he married Linda Garvin, beginning a life together. They made their home in Houston until 1984, then moved to Anderson and later settled in Bryan, Texas.

A devoted father, he raised two children, Cali and Bryan,. He was also a beloved grandfather to three grandchildren-Hannah, Payton, and Laynie-whom he loved dearly. Along the way, many cherished pets brought joy and companionship to his home.

After a long and dedicated career, he retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2007. In retirement, he found joy in simple pleasures: fishing, gardening, cooking meals for family and friends, and spending time with loved ones. Known for his talent in the kitchen and his green thumb in the garden, he was also a fierce competitor when it came to cards, dominoes, and game shows.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, Giles Burmer Whitfield and Doris Evelyn Key, his stepmother Francis Davis Whitfield, and his sister Susan Whitfield Burkett.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Linda Garvin Whitfield; his daughter Cali Currie (Matthew); his son Bryan Whitfield (Jayme); his grandchildren Hannah, Payton, and Laynie; his sister Patricia Whitfield; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and extended family.

He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, wit, and the deep love he had for his family.

A memorial service will be held at First Methodist Church in Bryan, TX on Aug. 2nd at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior to service time.
