Ginny Machann Obituary

Ginny Machann

December 4, 1945 - September 15, 2023

Virginia "Ginny" Sue Brown Machann, 77, of College Station, Texas, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2023, from Rhabdoid Carcinoma.

Ginny was raised in Kenesaw, Nebraska, and graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1963. She obtained BA and MA degrees in English from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She later pursued her doctorate in English at the University of Texas at Austin, where she fell in love with a fellow graduate student, Clinton Machann of Caldwell, Texas. The two married on December 30, 1974. She received her PhD in English Literature in 1979.

Clint and Ginny made their home in College Station, Texas, where they raised three daughters. For a decade, Ginny ran a copy and typing services shop, "On the Double," across from Texas A&M University in Northgate. She later returned to the classroom, teaching English at Blinn Junior College until her retirement in 2015. She loved writing, reading and teaching literature, and talking about big ideas. She was endlessly curious about the world and shared her love of learning and crafting stories with her students, friends, and family. She saw her children and grandchildren as her greatest legacy.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Lisa (Paul) Jasa; and her brother, Tom Brown.

She is survived by her husband, Clinton; daughters, Alena (Kersten) Horn, Tessie (Tim) West, and Sarah (John) Piel; grandsons, Marc and Mattis Horn, Cyril West, and Adley Piel; brother, Gerry (Karen); nieces, Shelly (Shawn) Gallagher and Katie (Philip) Styrt; and nephew, John (Kate Weskamp) Jasa.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Aggie Field of Honor and Memorial Cemetery, 3800 Raymond Stotzer Pkwy., College Station, TX. A Reception will follow at Jose's Restaurant in Bryan, TX.

I did typing at home for Ginny when she had "On the Double." I treasure those days in the 70s and 80s. I saw her picture and knew her immediately! She was a kind and caring and encouraging person to work for.
