Janet Newcomb Obituary

Janet Lea Newcomb

December 7, 1957 - July 7, 2022

Janet Lea Newcomb, age 64, went to be with her Heavenly Father on July 7, 2022.

Janet was born in Bryan on December 7, 1957 and grew up in her beloved community in Kurten, Texas. She was a 1976 graduate of Bryan High School and a proud member of both 4-H and FFA. She loved country music and dancing, as well as helping others. These passions and her love of community followed her throughout her life.

Over the years, Janet was a familiar face at Kurten Community Center events due to her willingness to volunteer. She recently worked tirelessly and assisted with the Kurten School's first reunion. Janet volunteered at the Brazos Valley Youth Livestock Show for over two decades and was the Swine Chairman for numerous years. She also worked at the Snook Rodeo as Secretary and kept the books for a number of other rodeos in the area.

Janet had a great love of friends and family; she was always reaching out and forging relationships with others. She was a loyal friend to many in the community and was loved by the Kurten Girls and her Mary Kay sisters around the state. She had a passion for history and genealogy, spending many years researching the Newcomb and Killen family lineage. Her exuberant personality, beautiful smile, and infectious laugh will be missed.

Janet was preceded in death by her father Albert Earl Newcomb, her mother Dorothy Killen Newcomb, and her brother Jay Bob Newcomb.

She is survived by her brother, John Newcomb, brother, Jerry Newcomb and wife Deborah; nephew, Ross Newcomb; niece, Caitlin Nash and husband Phil, nieces Sidney and Shelby Newcomb; as well as numerous cousins, great-nephews, and great-nieces.

A visitation for Janet will be held Friday, July 22, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1515 South College Avenue, Bryan, Texas 77801. A graveside service will occur Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Tryon Cemetery, Bryan, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite community charity or Tyron Cemetery Association, c/o Ronnie Shaw, 4125 Rabbit Lane, Bryan, Texas 77808.

What a shock. Prayers for Janet's family. Janet was a thoughtful lady with a sweet smile. I met Janet years ago through Mary Kay events and was privileged to be a Mary Kay "mentor" at weekly trainings. She will be missed.

I am in shock, shaking my head in disbelief! Janet and I worked together back at MHMR. We even had group "after work" gatherings. She was always a pleasure to be around. Janet was kind, witty, funny, caring, intelligent and all of the words that express how special she was and how she touched so many. We haven't seen each other in a long time but we chatted some on media.
Janet was an earth bound angel. I'm not sure why God took her to Heaven but he surely got a good one and was in need of an angel in Heaven. The world needs more like Janet Newcomb.
May she rest ever so peacefully, basking, in God's everlasting light. I pray this for her in hopes that our paths will cross again. I pray for peace and understanding for her family through this most trying of times.

I met Janet a few years ago through Mary Kay. I had the privilege and honor of getting to know her over the course of those few years in spending time together at various Mary Kay events and also through social media. She was a treasure of a person. She will be greatly missed and I will miss our conversations. I am also a genealogy buff and we would trade stories and "footwork" ideas whenever we conversed. Praying peace and comfort for all her family and for those of us who were honored to call her friend. I´m thanking the Lord that physical death is but a comma and that she is alive for eternity with our Lord, while and perfect!

I am saddened to learn of Janet's passing. We were formerly coworkers at MHMR. She was always kind, friendly, and helpful and loved her Kurten community! My thoughts and prayers are extended to her family, and may she rest in heavenly peace!
