Jason Garcia Obituary

February 3, 1981 – March 22, 2008

Jason William “J-A-S-O-N” Garcia, 27, was given the “green light” to “exit” this earth and kiss the angels in heaven Easter (Resurrection) weekend on Saturday, March 22, 2008. He was surrounded by his family and friends. A memorial service is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Christ United Methodist Church with Brian Smith, Pastor, of Community Bible Church and Jerry House Jr., of Christ United Methodist Church officiating.

Jason was born on February 3, 1981, in McAllen, Texas. A 2003 graduate of A&M Consolidated High School, Jason proudly lettered in the Special Olympics.

He greeted everyone with one simple question, “What’s your name?” With that, he became your friend for life. He never met a stranger. Not only did Jason make friends through the Brenham Outreach Advisory Council (BOAC) Adult Day Training Center but he even made friends worldwide through mission trips to Mexico with the youth group at Christ United Methodist Church (CUMC), where he was an active member for many years before becoming a charter member of Community Bible Church. Jason was always up for a good time, participating regularly in the Friday Fun Night for Friends with Special Needs at CUMC. Jason’s love for food, “b-ball,” people, music, life and, most of all, his “momma,” made his spirit contagious. Everyone wanted to be around him.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, Norman Edward Dorris. Survivors include his “momma,” Karen Boswell; “sister,” Ann Marie Bettencourt; maternal grandparents, Nantha Gilmore and William Lee Dorris Sr.; uncle, William Lee Dorris Jr.; aunt, Carol D. Bielamowicz; and numerous cousins and many, many friends.

Memorials may be made in Jason’s honor to The Special Olympics, Heart of Texas Area 6, Patricia Jones, Director, 509 N. Main St.;

Karen and Ann Marie,
We were sad to hear of Jason's illness and death. We know that you will miss him very much. I (Arlene) will never see an EXIT sign without thinking of Jason and his bright personality and occasional impatience. He was a wonderful young man. May God bless you and keep you in this trying time.

Karen, I was a member of the Brazos Valley MHMR Human Rights Committee with you for a few years and I came to know you as a loving mother and a powerful advocate for your son. Now that I have my own girls, I can only hope to follow your lead and be the same shining star for my two. Thank you for your inspiration! I'm so very sorry for your loss.

Dear Karen, I do not know if you will remember me or not but my mom and I had the pleasure of meeting you and Jason a couple years back. We were eating lunch at the Chinese food place on Villa Maria, and we had my son, who had cerebral palsy, with us (red-headed little boy, I think he was about 2 at the time). I want you to know that you and Jason touched our lives in just the few moments that we chatted together and I have thought of you often. It's ironic too; my Drew Bear went to be with the angels on Monday, and I'm sure Jason was there to say hello and greet him. I want you and your family to know that I am thinking of you, and you are in our prayers. My heart cries with yours, but God will give us strength to get through this.

Jason was the type of person who could put a smile on anyone's face, no matter what kind of mood they were in. He will be missed by a lot of people, because he had no enemies. You couldn't help but love someone who always told you you were pretty. Jason will always hold a special place in my heart, and he will always be my baby. Love you Jason, Sonya "Sonda" Smith

Jason was the son I never had and taught me more about life than all the masters, teachers, and mentors I have studied under for the past 50 plus years combined. I am honord to have been his "Da-Da" and will always love and cherish the memory of his place in my heart. He gave my life meaning and made me proud to be a part of his world. Goodbye for now my special son. Be at peace and know that I am with you in spirit always. Your loving father - Gordon

Jason,
Thank You for allowing me to be with you as you entered God's kingdom. I will always remember your smile and the gleam in your eyes. You have touched my heart in so many ways that words could never explain. I will miss you greatly and will always remember hearing you say "Ms. Tammi, Ms. Tammi!"

Karen and Ann Marie,
You are more than role models for any parent or sister. Your strength, patience, guidance and unconditional love that you gave to Jason is far beyond that than most of us could ever provide to our loved ones. You both will be so rewarded when you enter God's kingdom and hear Jason say "Momma! Sissy!" May the sun shine upon you each and every day till that time comes. Thank you for sharing Jason with me.

J A S O N is what he would say when you asked what his name was. Is Momma coming is what he would say when he knew the day was about to end. He would often greet you with a smile in the morning and a hug in the evenings as he left. He was also curious to know if something was green. Jason also loved to hear the train as it went by and say toot, toot. He kept a smile on his face, even when he was misbehaving. These are the things I will remember most about Jason. You never really know how much you truly care and will miss a person until they are gone. You will be truly missed.
Love Always,

J-a-s-o-mer is what he would say when you asked what his name was. Is Momma coming, is what he would say when he knew the day was about to end. He would often greet you with a smile in the morning and a hug in the evening as he left. Jason was always curious to know what color something was. Jason also loved to hear the train as it went by and could always hear him saying toot, toot as the train went by. These are all the things I will remember about you. Its funny how you never really know how much you care and will miss a person until they are gone. You will be missed.

We will all miss J-A-S-O-N and his "green shirt" and "2 o'clock" as well as his ready smile and hand shake. He has ten others that considered themselves his "sister". He is truly a brother to Troop 1505.

Jason was a cool dude and he had some style with his shirts and belt. Our world will be a little less brighter without his shining star. But I know he is not confined by his worldy body anymore and will have lots to say when he greet us!

We are all better off from knowing Jason and I thank God for that! Now I pray for God to send his comfort and love to Jason's family because I know they are really sad. God Bless You Karen!
