Jo Greensage Obituary

Greensage, Jo Nell

October 3,1941 - April 25,2024

Jo Nell Greensage, family matriarch extraordinaire and real estate professional trailblazer, has relocated to join her life partner, Raymond, in their heavenly retirement community.  Jo Nell went home on April 25, 2024 at the age of 82.

All who knew her understood Jo Nell was passionate about her husband, her friends, her family, her career, and her travel.  She never shied away from telling others of the perfection of her grandchildren and the adoration she felt for Raymond.  Jo Nell held her friends in high esteem and loved to travel with these friends and her family.  She enjoyed cooking and entertaining all the time (the more the better), and you could always find a card game or dominoes going on at the Greensage home.  Jo Nell garnered so many friendships in part because she was a great listener and gave wonderful advice.  She wasn't afraid to share her opinions and, even if unpopular (and sometimes unsolicited), her insight was usually spot on.  She knew how to keep the confidence of others and help them be their best. With pure intention, she often quietly went above and beyond for her family and friends without seeking recognition.

Jo Nell volunteered in so many areas over the years, especially with the Brazos County Youth Livestock Association, Phoebe's Home, and elementary school reading programs.  Jo Nell was born in Madisonville, Texas and finished high school in Bremond, Texas (where she fell in love with Raymond).  After high school, she completed business school in record time and was on her own in the workforce before she turned 18.  She later married Raymond, started a family, and stayed home with her children.  In 1973 Jo Nell began a real estate career that lasted nearly 50 years.

She received many professional honors and set many records, but the greatest source of pride to her was being able to help young families find and get into their first homes.  Jo Nell took extra care in her final days to give each of her children and grandchildren encouragement, words of appreciation, and lists of their finest attributes.

Jo Nell looked forward to reuniting with Raymond, her granddaughter, Mia Love McHargue, her own mother, Juanita Watson, and many close friends and family.

Jo Nell leaves her love and strength to her beloved children and grandchildren, Jeff Greensage (Sharon) of Bryan, Texas, and their children Hannah and Tyler; Dawn Dittmar of Houston, Texas and her children Austen, Regan (Will), Cade and Blake; Lisa McHargue of Lexington, Kentucky and her son Trey; and Stacey Henderson (Eliott) of Lexington, Kentucky and their daughter, Eleanor.  Honey also stays behind, for now, but she will join Jo Nell when it's her time because all dogs go to heaven.

Jo Nell spent the last season of her life telling everyone, "Love you, love you, love you!" If she didn't get the chance to tell you that in person, please know she felt it in her heart.  She worked hard to forge a good life for herself and her family, and she felt blessed and grateful for all the beautiful relationships made along the way.  She left this world with a knowing that relationships will continue for her in heaven, and that gave her peace and brings all her children comfort.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00pm Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Memorial Funeral Chapel.  A  Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, May 1 at 2:00pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church 507 E. 26th St., Bryan, TX 77803

My condolences to the Greensage family. My mother, Jean Cordell always spoke very highly of Jo Nell when she was a realtor with Brazosland Realty. My prayers go out to Lisa and Dawn that I've known for years from school etc.
May the lord bless you with strength and your memories comfort you during this difficult time.
With deepest sympathies,
William Forrest Cordell, III

My husband Don and I moved from Hawaii 50 + years ago and Jo Nell helped us find a place to live. Friends ever since. She was loved by so many and I am so lucky to have been a special friend in the past few years after we both lost our beloved husbands. My love and condolences to family and all who loved her.

Jo Nell was one of the sweetest ladies I´ve ever met. When I was the receptionist at Richard Smith Realtors in College Station, she ALWAYS came in with a smile on her face. One rarely saw Jo Nell down.
Peace be with Dawn and the rest of your family. Until we meet again....

So very sad to read of Jo Nell´s passing. She had just begun her real estate career when we worked together back in the 70´s. She left an impression on me that has lasted a lifetime. I will always remember her smile, kindness and words of wisdom as I was finding my way. She was a beautiful soul and I am so grateful to have known her.
