Celebration of life services for John Richard Beverly, 77, of Gladewater were held Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Gladewater with Brother David McGee officiating.
Dr. John R. Beverly of Gladewater, Texas passed away on July 28, 2017 at his home in Gladewater. He was born December 12, 1939 in Dallas, Texas to LaNeva Faye (Day) Beverly and John Dick Beverly. A 1956 graduate of Marshall High School, John attended Texas A&M University, obtaining a BS degree in Animal Science in 1962, and later pursued post graduate studies at Texas A&M, obtaining his MS in Animal Science and his PhD in Animal Science and Endocrinology. He began his career teaching in the Department of Animal Science at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. In 1968, he returned to Texas A&M where he worked in the Department of Animal Science and the Texas Agricultural Extension Service. John was well known and respected in his field of expertise and assisted with programs throughout the United States and in many foreign countries in the beef industry and agriculture generally. After 33 years of service, he retired in 2002 as Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Agriculture. He enjoyed traveling and especially his annual four wheeling trip to Colorado. He also enjoyed Bible study, hunting, fishing, wood working and spending time with family and friends. He particularly enjoyed following Aggie sports and the sports activities of his grandchildren. John and his wife Marsha returned just one year ago to live on Lake Gladewater in the home built by his mother and father in 1960. He will be truly missed by all his family and friends, as well as people he influenced and helped throughout his life and career.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Marsha; sons, J. Dennis Beverly and wife, Rebecca Reed Beverly, of Humble, Texas, David R. Beverly and wife, Ashley Gunter Beverly, of Dallas, and Danny Beverly of Livingston, Texas; daughter, Joann Beverly-Stark and partner, Rhonda Starks, of Flint, Texas; grandchildren, John "Rusty" Beverly and wife, Crystal Beverly, Patrick V. Beverly, John David Beverly, Caroline Beverly, Shelby Beverly, Logan Beverly, Sydney Beverly, Jose Starks and Jay Starks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 3060 US Hwy 80, Gladewater, TX 75647.
