Jt Dotson Obituary

JT Dotson

January 15, 1928 - June 13, 2022

JT Dotson, 94, passed away on June 13, 2022 at his home in College Station with three generations of family by his side. He was born January 15, 1928 in San Antonio to Herbert Forrest Dotson Sr. and Mary Roberta Morehead Dotson. After graduating from Breckenridge High School in 1946, he attended Texas A&M University and earned a mechanical engineering degree in 1950. The same year, he was commissioned in the army and married Margaret Williams.

Over the next 21 years of a military career, they lived in 7 states and 3 foreign countries. Some of JT's lasting memories included the friendly and supportive people he encountered on an unaccompanied tour to Thailand in 1959 as a Field Artillery member of the Joint Military Advisory Group to the Thai Army. He also reminisced about the demanding work in Korea as Battalion Commander of the First Target Acquisition Battalion of the Twenty-fifth Field Artillery. He earned various medals for his services and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1971.

JT earned a Masters Degree in engineering at Georgia Tech in 1967. The family moved to College Station and he worked on a PhD at Texas A&M and then taught in the engineering department for ten years until they moved to Kingsland. He served as Llano County Commissioner from 1988-1991. He and Margaret then ranched in Llano County. In their 62 years of marriage until her passing, JT said there was never a dull moment.

He is survived by his four children and spouses David Jay and Frances Dotson, Debbie Jeanne and John Begnaud, Donna Jo and David Borsack, and Diana Joy and Charles Bokelman; 13 grandchildren and spouses Zoe Zboril Dotson, Kyra Jae Dotson, Jennifer Jeanne and Greg Moots, Joanna Leigh and Jordan Click, Jacqui Renae and Cody Mobley, Jayme Elissa and Matthew Komechak, Julie Ann and Roger Winckler, Tracy Lynn and Bear Riley, Kelly Jo and Mike Mattila, Tavis Borsack, Tyson Wayne and Taylor Bokelman, Taylor Shaun Bokelman, and Kalyn Michelle Bokelman; and 26 great grandchildren.

Family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that Memorial Gifts be made to The Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets Association. Send checks to CCA 1134 Finfeather Rd, Bryan, TX 77803-3823. Online gifts via CCA website - corpsofcadets.org. Under Membership and Gifts- Give in Honor/Memory.
