Linda Gilbert Obituary

Linda Druery Gilbert

December 25, 1956 - December 31, 2020

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:29 (KJV)

Linda Druery was born on December 25, 1956 to Janette and R. Ray Druery, Sr. and gained her wings on December 31, 2020. Linda was a lifelong resident of Bryan / College Station. She was a proud member of the Bryan High School graduating class of 1975. During her high school years, she was active in the Valkyries pep squad and The Future Home Makers of America club. Linda's professional career began in high school as one of the first African American boutiques sales person's in Manor East Mall. She promoted the boutique as a model, even on TV her confidence and grace shone thru as she made her mark in the community. She later worked at First National Bank in Bryan. She spent 21 years of dedicated service at Texas A&M in the Human Resources department until her retirement in 2015. Linda was a lifelong member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church of Bryan where she faithfully served in many capacities over the years.

Linda was civic minded and an active servant of the community. She always wanted to brighten someone else's day and had a passion for the youth of the community. She used her quiet confidence and grace to provide hope and strength as she worked to uplift those around her. She received numerous awards for her service. She was a member of the Bethune's Women's Club and served as the chairperson for 21 years of the Bethune Woman's Club Annual Cotillion Ball and Sweetheart Coming of Age Ball which benefitted the North Bryan Community Center and provided numerous scholarships to the ball participants. She prided herself on ensuring the debutantes, beaus and sweethearts would learn the societal graces, improve their confidence, serve the community and have a memorable evening of elegance. She delighted in creating a signature candy bar for the sweethearts. She served as community liaison for the Brazos Valley Community Action Agency; past president, TAMU Employee Advisory Committee; TAMU professional support staff; chair, TAMU Women's Week nominating committee; recipient Rotary Club Edgar Morris Spirit Award; 2004 honoree, The Prenatal Clinic; 2003 honoree, Brazos Valley African American Museum; 2016 honoree, Women of Distinction and board member, Brazos Valley Salvation Army.

Linda's pride and joy was her family. She leaves to cherish her memory, husband of nearly 40 years, W.T. Gilbert, Jr.; daughters, Nicole Johnson (Dr. Brandon Johnson) of Flower Mound, Texas and Stephanie Gilbert of Katy, Texas. The light of Gigi's world was grandson, Caleb Johnson. Her siblings are Katheryne Warren of Bryan, Ruth (EW) of Rosharon, Texas, and Darrell (Katrina) of Keller, Texas. Her special sisters-in-love are, Barbara Gilbert, Brenda Daily (Elder A.J., Daily Jr.). She joins those loved ones who preceded her, Janette Hedge, James Hedge, R Ray Druery, Sr, Hattie Gafford Robinson, Richard Logan, Johnnie Gafford, Annie B Druery, Charlie McGregor, and Charles (Francis) Druery.

Linda's bright and bubbly personality, warm smile and laugh will be missed here on this earth by countless family, nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones. But we take comfort in knowing that she has joined the ancestors and great cloud of witnesses who now watch over us.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 7, at Jones-Washington Mortuary, 508 East Martin Luther King, Jr. St. Bryan, Texas 77803. Video messages can be taped for the family during this time. Services are set for 11 a.m. Friday, January 8, at Bryan City Cemetery, 1111 N Texas Ave. Bryan, Texas 77803.

Pallbearers include Christopher Turner, Derrance Turner, Sedrick Gilbert, Anthony Taylor, William Echols and Minister Andrew J. Daily.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to, Brazos Valley African American Museum or North Bryan Community Center.
