Mary Payne Obituary

Mary Edna Dobbs Payne

Mar 21, 1943 - Oct 3, 2025

Mary Edna Dobbs Payne passed away peacefully in Hearne, Texas at Crossroads Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility on Friday October 3, 2025.

She was born March 21st, 1943, in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma to John Dobbs and June Rose Boucher Dobbs (Brundige). Later they moved to Altus and Duke Oklahoma. Mary was a high school graduate of Altus High School, class of 1961. She was raised in The Salvation Army and for a time was an officer. She later attended Oklahoma State University at Stillwater and graduated with a Masters of Science Degree in 1974. In 1976 she was elected to be an alternate delegate for the Democratic Convention and met President Jimmy Carter. She also ran for Oklahoma State Representative about this same time. She worked in the Oklahoma Prison System as a psychologist and later became a real estate agent. She made the big move to Texas starting out in Austin then moved to San Antonio where she resided until 2014 when she moved with her sister, Brenda, to Marquez, Texas where they lived next door to her niece, Tammy D and husband Eric Ginsel. Mary was a respected insurance agent for over 20 years, helping many people with their insurance needs. She had a very loving and generous heart and loved animals. She was a favorite among many generations of nieces and nephews, always eager and willing to play games and host a slumber party, always there to help if it was at all possible for her to do so, if one of us was in need. Our hearts feel a great loss from her passing.

Mary was preceded in death by both her parents; brother, John L Dobbs; sister, Brenda Sue Dobbs Kaszynski Cunningham; as well as nieces, Donna Dobbs and Deborah June Patterson; and nephew, Jimmy Dobbs. She is survived by brothers, Carlus Dobbs of Vernon, Texas and Albert Dobbs and wife, Sue of Vernon, Texas; sisters, Rose Ann Ray of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Nancy Elliott of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be missed and loved, forever in our hearts.
