Ballard Chaffins, 83, of St. Marys, OH died 7:51 a.m. Thursday Sept. 4, 2025 at JTDM Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born Jan. 9, 1942 in Mousie, KY to Troy and Biddie (Wicker) Chaffins.
On July 16, 2005 he married Bonnie Shoffstall-Hammond, who survives.
Also survived by: daughter Annette Alexander (Kerry Shepherd) Chaffins of St. Marys, OH; daughter Bernette Newbauer of St. Marys, OH; daughter Claudette Snyder of Minster, OH; step-son Joe (Michelle) Vires of New Knoxville, OH; step-daughter Lisa (Ned Sudman) Moore of St. Marys, OH; step-daughter Chastity (Troy) Dodson of New Bremen, OH; step-daughter Polly (Rob) Pugh of Ann Arbor, MI; grandchildren: Dustin (Kelsey), Matt (Chelsea), Mitchell, Nikki, Shane (Katie), Nate (Krista), Caleb, Isaac, Jayson; step-grandchildren: Ashley (Cody), Alyshia (Allen), Brandon (Linda), Mitchell, Mike, Alli (Jess), Kalobb (Kelsey), Kyle, Allison (Charlie); 29 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: parents Troy and Biddie Chaffins; son William "Spank" Chaffins; granddaughter Jessica Chaffins; great-grandson Jamie Wintrow; siblings: James Chaffins, Mirtlee Johnson, Kelly Chaffins, Richard Chaffins, Coy Chaffins, Leo Chaffins, Lucille Chaffins, Cora Fields, Lora Collins, Paris Chaffins, Dora Lewis, Sallie Fairchild; former spouse Jeannie McLaughlin
He attended school in Hindman, KY.
A retired production associate, he had worked at Mersman Bros. Furniture and Huffy Bicycle Mfg. Co. (both in Celina, AVCO-New Idea (Coldwater) and Flexible Foam Products (Spencerville).
His favorite pastimes included attending auctions, restoring old record players, listening to bluegrass and country music and taking meticulous care of his lawn and vehicles. He enjoyed auto racing and was a huge supporter of the Kentucky Wildcats sports teams. More than anything else, he enjoyed family get-togethers at Christmastime and on Father's Day.
Ballard will be remembered for his friendly demeanor, warm smile and the sound of his laughter.
Rites are scheduled to begin 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday September 9, 2025 at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West) in St. Marys. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation 5 - 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
