James Carpenter Obituary

FRANKLIN - James William Carpenter, 85, passed away Monday, July 14, 2025.
James was born in Macon County to the late Zeb David and Alva Ledford Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Celia Diane Carpenter, and brothers Leon Carpenter and Ed "Buck" Carpenter.
He was known in Franklin as "Bunny" the bread man. After retiring, he served on the American Legion Post #108/VFW Post #7339 military honor guard for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Giles Carpenter; sons, Tracy (Janice) Carpenter and Kevin "Bo" (Lynn) Carpenter; siblings, Kenneth (Audrey) Carpenter, Olivia (Windell) Whitmore, Harold Carpenter, Wanda (Buck) Cabe and Charles (Vickie) Carpenter; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 17, at Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Don Moffitt will officiate. American Legion Post #108/VFW #7339 will conduct military rites.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Legion Post #108/VFW #7339 Funeral Detail, P.O. Box 474, Franklin, NC 28744.
