James Melzer Obituary

LAKEMONT, GA - Dr. James Fillmore Melzer Jr., DMD passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024.
Jamie was born in Tallahassee, Florida, Aug. 19, 1974, to his parents, Dr. James F. Melzer Sr. and Connie McDaniel Melzer. He attended Sneads High School in Sneads, Florida. After graduation, he attended Florida State University, earning his bachelor's degree in political science. He went on to further his education at University of Florida, earning his doctorate in the field of dentistry. Jamie served his country in the Air National Guard and spent 10 years as the owner and operator of Appalachian Dental where his work family became family.
Jamie was a man of faith. He grew up in Sneads First Baptist, where he later became a deacon of the church. His family was his life. He was married to the love of his life for 27 years. Jamie found his happiness in providing for and being involved in every aspect of his children's lives. They were his pride and joy. Jamie liked to fish, hunt, play church league softball and lose countless golf balls to the woods, although he was a reigning long drive champion at Sky Valley.
Jamie is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Earl and Faye McDaniel; paternal grandparents, George and Nell Melzer; and uncle and aunt, Butch and Gail Higley.
He is survived by his wife, Arrion Melzer; parents, Dr. James F. Melzer Sr., DMD and Connie McDaniel Melzer; children, Garrison (McKayla) Melzer, Ryne Melzer and John (Destiny) Metzler; siblings, Dr. Daniel (Holly) Melzer and Ashley (Jack) Reitz; grandchildren, Kayden and Leighanna; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A visitation was held to honor the life of Jamie Thursday, Dec. 26 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Sneads First Baptist Church with a service following at 12 p.m. Burial followed after the service in Pope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Sneads First Baptist Church or Clayton First Baptist Church. Donations to Clayton First Baptist Church can be mailed to 83 S. I am deeply sorry for the loss of Dr. Melzer. I met him because my job handled I.T. duties for his practice. He also pulled one of my teeth. He always said hello and really tried to connect with you.
