Jerry Shofner Obituary

FRANKLIN - Jerry Shofner, 86, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2025. He was my dear friend and father-in-law. I will deeply miss him as will so many of his friends and family.
Jerry had a personality that wouldn't quit. He was fun loving, bold and knowledgeable, yet he never boasted or intentionally drew attention to himself. Although he grew up tough and would face up to any challenger, he was sensitive to a fault and even passed that on to his daughter Robin.
Earlier in life, he became a master plumber and pipefitter in Pensacola, Florida, and after years working with Robert Pyle, he bought R.N. Pyle Contractors and became very successful in industrial and commercial construction. He loved the mountains and moved to Franklin, and the Cowee community became his home. In retirement, he collected antique cars, made friends and enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.
Eventually he moved back to Pensacola, Florida, to be close to family. Marge Shofner, his wife, died and he was left alone. During that time, Jerry and I had meaningful visits and spoke about life, death and our dear family members who had passed on. Those conversations and prayers were some of the most meaningful we ever had. For death has a way of exposing our weaknesses, helping us confess our sins and motivating us to finish well.
Finally, before Jerry's memory loss increased, he revealed to me his repentant heart, his sincere faith in Jesus and his hope in eternal life. I will always remember how Jerry welcomed me into his family from the outset and how he always loved me as a son! His workers and friends loved and respected him because he earnestly sought to make them feel good and was always willing to help them in any need. He was a rare and sensitive soul without pretense. I will miss you but, see you soon my dear friend.
