Rupert Wood Sr. Obituary

Rupert "Rup" Leroy Wood Sr., 85, passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2024.
Rup was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and grew up in Live Oak. He graduated from Suwannee County High School where he excelled in baseball and was All-American in football. His love and devotion for sports carried over into his adult years where he never missed cheering on the Florida Gators or the Atlanta Braves. Rup attended Cowee Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and two sisters. He was also preceded in death by his son, Darren Blakely.
Rup is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Betty Jo Wood, with whom he would have celebrated 42 years of marriage with Thursday, Aug. 8; children, Trina (Pat) Waits, Doug Blakely, Felicia Wood, Rupe (Shannon) Wood Jr., Donald (Rexanna Duvall) Blakely and Jason (Jennifer) Wood; brother, Johnny (Glenda) Wood; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 12 in the chapel of Macon Funeral Home. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment was private.
