Aaron Rivera Obituary

AARON RIVERA Cedar Rapids Aaron Rivera, 74, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Jan. 24, 2022. He was called home by his savior, Jesus Christ following a sudden illness. Celebration of Life services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St., SW. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery. Aaron was born on July 1, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After graduating from LaSalle High School in 1965, he served honorably in the U.S. Navy and then attended Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa before being employed by the U.S. Postal Service where he retired after a lengthy career as a letter carrier. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Rivera who was his best friend of 43 years; five children, Jamie and Colleen Rivera, Stephen and Ninh Rivera, Elisha and Mel Howe, Ulyssa and Jamel Ajram, and Shawna and Marshall Truitt; and 16 grandchildren include Mason, Nina, Emily, Abby, Jacob, Josh, Adessa, Nathan, Hannah, Jarron, Leighton Kaylah, Roman, Amaar, Calais and Marek. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus Rivera and Anita (Rivera) Weeks. Aaron accepted Jesus as his Savior in 1978 and loved to share God's love and grace with his family, friends, and those around him. He believed the gospel was simple, and for everyone, and often quoted Roman's 10:13. "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." In addition to sharing the gospel, Aaron was actively involved in his church, and over the years helped wherever he could, including serving as a sunday schoolteacher, bus driver, usher and song leader. Aaron loved his family, and in his later years his children have fond memories of him ending every conversation by reminding them to "Do What's Right!" He loved helping others in need and would give to others even if it meant him going without. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren whenever the opportunity arose. He loved to research and write articles on a variety of topics and was never afraid to tell you, his opinion. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make others laugh and brighten their day. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him, and his family has peace of mind knowing he is in God's arms. Memorials may be directed to the family. Aaron and I graduated together and we both served in the Navy. We were both going to navy school in Great Lakes, Illinois Naval Training Station at the same time and road back and forth to Cedar Rapids on weekends together. Aaron had a great sense of humor and we enjoyed many weekend trips home. My condolences to his family. May you rest in peace my friend, school and shipmate.
