Thoughts, memories, and condolences may be left at www. goettschonline.com. Surviving are his parents, Amanda and Matt McWherter and his twin sister, Grace, grandparents, Jay (Nancy) McWherter, Cindy (Jeff) Lesmeister, Todd (Theresa) Van Meighem, Gail (Jay) Danninger, great-grandparents, Barb McWherter, Larry and Eydie VanMeighem, and Paul and Rheda Martel, aunts and uncles, Wendy (Rick) Young, Sarah (Nick) Feckley, Shawna (Endalew) Gebretsadik, Jenna (Isaac) Dahl and Matthew Danninger and a cousin, Makeda Gebretsadik. He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Richard McWherter and Wayne and Karen Hammel. Adam Jay McWherter was born prematurely, October 25, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Adam was very curious as a little boy and loved to know how things worked. He loved his pets and was constantly by his sister's side. Adam was most recently a 7th grade student at the Anamosa Community School District where he participated in football, basketball, archery, and running. He also loved to play golf, a skill he learned from his grandmother. On nights and weekends, he could be found on his PlayStation, gaming with his friends or his uncle who was more like a big brother to him. He was also active at home, planting fruit trees with his grandfather, tapping trees and syruping with his family, helping with the chickens, and exploring and taming the land with his dad. He was his dad's favorite companion. Together they enjoyed hunting, fishing, storm chasing, and observing the stars and sky. Adam was always curious and ready to explore all the world had to offer. He never met a snake, turtle, or toad that he didn't want to keep as a pet. He never met a Lego set he couldn't conquer. He aspired to become either an engineer or a paleontologist and had his sights set on attending MIT. He loved his family and spending time with them. Adam enjoyed hearing old stories, learning from his grandparents and great-grandparents. He adored his friends and enjoyed every second he could spend with them. Adam and Grace were very close. They supported each other at every event and were the first to sing each other's praises. Adam loved with his whole heart and will be remembered for his amazing hugs, intelligence and incredible sense of humor.

January 23, 2024

We loved when Adam and Grace would come through the back field to our house to play. Adam was so funny and kind, not only to our boys, but also to our girls who can be a little overwhelming at times. He would just smile at them, nothing seemed to bother him. He would get the kids laughing with some silly story. Dane and I were reminiscing about carpooling to sports, he was always a joy to be around. Heaven truly gained a beautiful soul; We will miss him very much! Matt, Amanda & Grace, know that you are always in our prayers, and we are always here for you anytime you need us! Rest in peace sweet adam.
