Chad Smith Obituary

CEDAR RAPIDS- Chad M. Smith, 43, of Cedar Rapids, IA, died after a long battle with cancer on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, IA. Chad was born on June 3, 1980, in Vinton, IA the son of George F. "Fred" and Debbra M (Sprague) Smith. Chad spent his early years living in Vinton, IA and attended the Vinton Elementary School. In 1992 the Smith family moved to Winthrop, IA, where he attended the East Buchanan Schools. In 1999 Chad graduated from East Buchanan High School and soon started working for CBB Packaging in Cedar Rapids, IA. Chad went on to work for Fisher Printing and Nordstroms in Cedar Rapids. Chad will always be remembered for his warmheartedness and ability to make friends. He loved spending time with his friends from work and the ones he just made. He had a strong will and liked to do things his way, and rarely asked for help, but would be there if you asked him. He is survived by his parents Fred and Debbra Smith, Winthrop, IA, a brother, Andy (Alison) Smith, Cedar Rapids, IA, his grandmother, Beverly Sprague, Independence, IA, an uncle, Dennis (Pat) Sprague, Independence, IA, several cousins, and many close friends. Chad is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Leland Sprague, paternal grandparents, George M. and Maxine Smith, and two aunts Mary Cecil, and Dorothy Smith. A Visitation will be held from 3 PM until 6 PM on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the Reiff Family Center â€" Funeral Home & Crematory in Winthrop, IA. A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM at Fremont Cemetery in Winthrop, IA. To leave an online condolence please go to www.reifffamilycenter.com under obituaries.

I'm sending my condolences Chad was my uncle's John and Gary fordes best friend he used to come in to my store at Casey's on 1st Ave and 35th St NE every now and then i used to tease him about him buying beer saying do you really need that chadders hed laugh n say yeah I'm heading over to garys to hang out for a while cant show up empty handed i used to love seeing him come in he was one of my favorites that would come in i didnt hear he passed untill my uncle came home from his vacation trip last night i was shocked he had passed
RIP Chad you will be missed.
