Cheryl Cook Obituary

CHERYL L. COOK Vinton After a courageous four-year battle with non-small cell lung cancer, Cheryl L. Cook, 63, passed away at her home on Monday, May 9, 2022, with her family surrounding her. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home in Vinton. Following visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Vinton Country Club. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Doug; five daughters and their families: Tracy (Justin) Ehlert, Bryce and Daythan, Denise (Brian) Zimmer, Stella and Juniper, Heather Mangold and Brant, Heidi (Bruce) Gritten, Malachi and Abby, and Holly (Jerry) Groom, Jerry Jr. and Arthur; and mother, Pamela (Jim) Landfried. Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Farle; and sister, Renee Davis. Cheryl was born Jan. 20, 1959, the daughter of Ronald and Pamela (Peterson) Farle in California. On Nov. 30, 1991, Cheryl was united in marriage to Doug Cook in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Cheryl was employed in various positions throughout her career, but her most cherished role was being a loving grandma. In her leisure time, Cheryl enjoyed staying connected with friends and family through hand-written notes, tending to her garden and utilizing the fruits and vegetables she grew, traveling, moose watching, camping and fishing with Doug and the grandchildren, refinishing/decorating projects, was a friendly yet fierce board game competitor (especially backgammon) and eating cinnamon candy (even though she knew it wasn't the healthiest but couldn't resist). In her later years, Cheryl became an advocate for lung cancer and lobbied at the state house in Des Moines. Cheryl always had a kind word and friendly smile for anyone she came in contact with. Although Cheryl loved flowers, memorials may be directed to the non-profit organization, LUNGevity, P.O. Box 754, Chicago, IL, 60690 or www.lungevity.org. Cheryl's family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Mercy for their care and support. Online condolences can be left at www.teahenfuneralhome.com.
