I can’t believe that it has been 5 years already since Dave’s passing. There is still an empty void in our universe since he passed. I know his dear sister misses him every day.
We are consoled by the fact that Dave left a significant endowment to Coe College; one that will shape the course of STEM studies and scholarships forever.
You go, Dr. Dave!

Dave and I were co-workers at IBM. He loved IBM and his career. We were travel buddies for years. I remember one time in Sydney (Australia), Dave and others were craving Thai food. They just had to get 5-peppers-hot food. I got regular food. Dave was sweating up a storm through that whole meal, and loving it. A great worker, a great traveler, and full of life. Our world has just lost another intellectual. It was my pleasure to work and travel with you Dave. May you Rest in Peace.

I was out of the country when Dave passed and just recently became aware of this sad news. I have witnessed Dave's passion for IBM and Cole College, and his desire and extensive knowledge to help those he came in contact with at both institutions. He loved PoK-e-Jo's BBQ where Dave and I often had lunch together. He loved Texas Longhorns basketball and Wisconsin Badgers football (go figure), and rooted for all the Iowa teams. Dave made the world a brighter place and I will miss him.

David was a classmate of mine back in 1972 graduating from Mediapolis (Iowa) High School. I remember him as an extremely intelligent and a very nice guy. I can only imagine his great success after that.
Condolences to David's entire family.
Rest in peace my classmate!

I have known Dave since 1988. He was took me under his mentorship while I did an AIX internship in Austin. We remained close friends since. We had many healthy debates through the years about IBM and our strategy. When he learned he needed a heart transplant he embraced my coming to Austin to care for him for a week as many of friends took turns being there for him. My heart is broken and all I know he now is in a safe place. Though he didn't share in my Christian beliefs he appreciated and respected them. Foremost, Dave was my friend and secondly my IBM mentor. Love you brother from another mother.

I had the good fortune to meet "Dr. Dave" at one of R. Smetana's famous Christmas parties (always in January).
Dave & I also shared a few lunches, where we talked about our common involvement with endowments & heart transplants.
Dave was a kind, gentle soul, and certainly always a gentleman!
He will be welcomed above with open arms, & I hope that he will continue to guide and mentor us throughout our lives.

My few years working with Dave many years ago were really fun - he was very bright, and loved to intellectually challenge himself and others to constantly get better. I learned a lot from him. Godspeed, my friend!

I worked with Dave for many, many years and always respected his intelligence and character. He would drop whatever he was doing when I needed help. He was very involved in mentoring women in science, and his eyes would light up when he talked about the successes of women who benefitted from scholarships he funded and mentoring he did within IBM. I will miss him.
