Gordon Anderson Obituary

GORDON WILLIAM ANDERSON Cedar Rapids Gordon William Anderson, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away suddenly from heart failure on May 9, 2022. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Gordy requested his body be donated to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program for medical research. Burial at a later date at Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Those unable to attend are invited to watch the service via livestream. Gordy was born Dec. 2, 1942, to Melvin and Ruth (Selberg) Anderson, in Waukon, Iowa. He attended Waukon High School and one year of college at the University of Iowa. Gordy was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Vietnam War. After his time in the service, he returned to Cedar Rapids and later married Patricia Lane in 1968 in Cascade, Iowa. They had three children, Lisa, Kevin and Jason. Gordy loved his children more than anything in the world. He was so proud of his grandchildren, Addy and Owen Anderson. He loved going to their ball games, after which he would give them pointers. Gordy loved to go walleye fishing with his best friend, Tom Pochobradsky. They made many trips to the Minnesota Lakes and Mississippi River. He was a big fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially football, basketball and wrestling. He was also a lifetime follower of the Cleveland Indians and Browns. Gordy and Pat loved to travel, making two trips to New Zealand to visit Lisa and John and traveling to many states. Gordy loved attending auctions and estate sales, where he was always looking for a bargain, spending time at the lake house at Lake Delhi and spending time with special friends, Tom, Joyce, and KC Pochobradsky. Gordy worked 35 years in the office at Iowa Manufacturing, now Terex. Survivors include his loving wife, Patricia; children, Lisa (John) Marshall of Auckland, New Zealand, Kevin Anderson (partner, Stephanie Atkinson and her children) of Owasso, Okla., and Jason (Lisa) Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Addy and Owen Anderson; siblings, Donna Schuler of Kenai, Alaska, Odel (Chris) Anderson of Lancaster, Pa., and Richard (Joan) Anderson of Davenport, Iowa; brother-in-law, Vic Villont of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Patricia's family, Mary (Ray) Finn, John (Jennifer) Lane, Charlie (Nancy) Lane, Bill (Lois) Lane, Katie (Gary) Eiben, Liz (Al) Takes and Bernadette Lane. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Ruth Anderson; and siblings, Linda Villont, Carolyn Linzy, Donald Anderson, Shirley Boleyn and Darlene Hartkemeyer. Memorials may be made in his name and directed to Cedar Valley Humane Society and His Hands Free Clinic.
