James Chekal Obituary

James Charles Chekal, 89, passed away on Monday, February 5. A resident of Belle Plaine, Iowa, James was born on February 14, 1934, to James Chekal and Ella Bayzn. James obtained an associate's degree through the Air Force. From January 1954 to February 1974, he worked on ground support equipment that maintained aircraft. He also owned and operated Jim's appliance until his retirement. Some of his greatest hobbies included hunting, fishing, woodworking, camping, and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of the Legion, NRA, Optimus Club, NCO (Non-Commission Officer Club), and affiliated with the Methodist Church in Belle Plaine, Iowa. In 1959, he married Margaret Louise Chekal (Braasch) in Blairstown, Iowa. Together, they had one child. Preceding in death are his parents; and siblings Mary Chekal (Marek), Helen Chekal (McKinzie), Vera Chekal (Felio), Anna Chekal (Van Speybrock) and Elsie Chekal (O'Neill). He is survived by his wife Margaret; son Jeffrey James Chekal and wife Dawn Lee Chekal (Lester) of Belle Plaine, Iowa; niece Julie Munson; grandchildren Tyler, Austin (Kayla), Blake (Brianna), Cody (Selena), Bailey (Zach), Brooke, and Vanessa (Nate); and great-grandchildren Bentley, Shayden, Ariana, Olivia, Jayden, Delayna, Silas, and Shae. The family would like to give a special thank-you to the family, friends and neighbors of Jim and Marge for all the help they have received throughout the years. Services will take place at the Belle Plaine Legion at a later date. Condolences may be left online at www.iowacremation.com under obituaries.
