Janice Sarchett Obituary

Janice E. (McVey) Sarchett, 76, passed away at Mercy Medical Center on Wednesday July 6, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Private family services will be held. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is assisting the family. Jan was born July 18, 1945 in Vinton, the daughter of Orval and Lavonne (Dake) McVey. She attended school in Vinton, graduating in 1963. Jan worked several years for Collins Radio before she met the love of her life, James L. Sarchett. Jan and Jim married in 1965 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and had 56 loving years together. After marriage, Jan attended Kirkwood Community College and studied computer programing. Following graduation, she was employed for twenty-one years in the accessor’s office at the Benton County Courthouse. Jan is remembered as a loving wife, friend, mother and grandmother, whose passion was helping others. Jan enjoyed cooking, sewing, painting, woodworking and crafting of all kinds. She was an excellent seamstress, making many clothes, quilts, table runners, towels, pillows and home furnishings which she would then share with family and friends. Her husband, Jim, never had to sit in a barber's chair as Jan cut his hair and many others over the years. There was nothing this lady could not do, or was not willing to try. As her husband Jim said many times, “They just don't make 'em like Jan anymore!" Jan also did her civic duty working elections in Benton County. Jan loved to travel. She and Jim traveled to seven European countries, Alaska, New England and Canada. Jan had a heart of gold and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Jan is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Faith (Greg) Rhinehart; son, James (Rennie Kulp) Sarchett; five grandchildren: Nicholas (Eilish) Rhinehart, Cory Rhinehart, Benjamin, Alexandra and Felicity Sarchett; sister, Barbara Anderson; sister-in-law, Una Kaye Lohse; and brother-in-law, Michael (Karen) Sarchett. Jan was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in law, Beverly (Jack) Hodges; and brother-in-law, Richard Lohse. A memorial fund has been established. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home of Vinton is caring for Jan and her family. Online condolences may be left at www.teahenfuneralhome.com.
